Hi I'm Everett

I'm a student at BYU. I'm a musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Portland, Oregon area. Music has always been a big part of my life. I've been singing with my family for as long as I can remember. I took piano lessons from age 5 to 10. I played the trombone and tuba in band in middle school. I played some guitar starting at about age 8 and then in high school, guitar became my passion. I love singing and playing my guitar. I love performing. I enjoy learning new songs as well as writing original songs. So far I've put one song up on iTunes which is also on Google Play, Spotify, and other music sites as well. I have a true passion for music. I don't love performing for the attention or applause, but rather because of the way music can touch people in ways other things can't. I love when people tell me that my music moved them or helped them through a rough time. This is why I also love performing hymns. I spend lots of time arranging guitar versions of church songs. I also love to learn! I love science, math and history classes. I love to learn things about the scriptures I didn't know before. I love reading fact books and watching fact videos, even if it's just random quirky facts. In high school I was on the track and field team and I was varsity javelin and high jump. I love sports of all kind and being active. My dream would to become a performer and make a living with that. I realize that it's hard to be able to support a family like that which is why I'm also studying hard at BYU to get a college degree.

Why I am a Mormon

Originally, I was a member because I was born into a family with parents who are both members. However, in the last few years, I have gained a testimony for myself of the truthfulness of this church. I have had experiences in my life where I can't doubt the presence of the Lord's hand and influence to create miracles happen. In some cases, I have seen the Lord work through me to be an instrument in His hands so that I can help bring about the plan He has for each one of His children. In those cases I felt incredibly humbled and blessed to have the opportunity to serve others in the way God wanted me to. I have prayed earnestly and felt God's and Jesus' love surround me like a blanket. I know God lives and He loves us so much, each individually, and that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

In my last ward, I was the secretary for the group of boys in my age group. Since coming to BYU, I have a received a calling in my new ward as a member of the service committee. I also have responsibilities to visit with specific members of my ward at least once a month that I have been assigned to be helpers for. Although I'm not close to perfect, I try my best to pray to my Father in Heaven often and read His words from the scriptures every day and write in my journal frequently. These things help me to grow personally and strengthen my relationship with God. I also serve those around me as much as I can. This way, I can serve God's children while feeling closer to Him.
