Hi I'm Melody

I was born in Tennessee, raised in Seattle, and I'll be spending the next 18 months living in Cambodia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a junior at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. I am a Political Science major, but being a teacher has always been a passion of mine, and hopefully the end goal as well! I taught 6th Social Studies while in high school, as well as advanced sexual education. I am a camp counselor, and there are few things that make me laugh more than all of those middle school campers. I have played basketball all my life and loved every second of it, and running is my choice of exercise. I am the youngest of 5 kids and I love my family (including my 8 nieces and nephews) more than anything!

Why I am a Mormon

Nothing brings me more joy than Christ's gospel. I say that with complete confidence because no matter what happens in my life, the gospel is the one consistent source of pure light and joy. It is impossible for me to deny the love of my Savior because he saves me every single day for sorrow and sin. Through His atonement, I am able to be clean and strong. Following His example has only ever brought me happiness. It has rarely been easy, but I know I am never alone. My Heavenly Father is aware of me and He knows me. Jesus Christ died for me, and experienced every challenge I will face. With Him by my side, it is impossible to fail. Through Him, I can do all things. Why would I choose to live any other way?

How I live my faith

Living my faith has always been the number one priority in my life. Sunday's are a day set aside to worship my Father in Heaven and remember the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. I have never participated in a sporting event on Sunday, and hanging out with friends was for all the other days of the week. In high school, everyone knew that my house was the fun and safe place to go, when many other parties were exactly the opposite. Many of my friends decided they wouldn't participate in unsafe and illegal activities with the rest of our class because they knew that I would stand with them. At college, I was the leader of my hall in organizing service projects and church activities as well as teaching lessons at church and being a source of support and love for everyone in our hall and ward. For the next 18 months I will be serving the Lord 24/7, with 100% of my time in the Cambodia, Phnom Penh Mission! I will learn how to speak Cambodian, leave behind my family, friends, school, technology, and everything I know, to go and serve the people of Cambodia and help them feel of the Savior's love and see God's plan for them. It will be the most difficult thing I have ever done, but bringing the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ into someone's life is worth everything I can give and more.
