Hi I'm Shelby

I'm a Disciple Leader, a caring person and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 19 years old, I was born in Utah and have lived in Australia, Florida and Idaho. I am the second youngest of 6 children in my family. I am a student at Brigham Young University Idaho but currently I am serving as a full-time missionary in Long Beach, California! I love reading, traveling, music, volleyball, dancing and service. In my spare time I love to volunteer at animal shelters and nursing homes.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was younger, I read the Book of Mormon and didn't understand it at first. As I got older, I read more often and began to see the difference it made in my life. I was baptized at the age of 8 and chose to keep the commandments of God. By keeping the commandments I was able to grow closer to God but I knew there was more to learn. By reading the Book of Mormon, I related the stories to my life and trials I was going through. I know from reading the Bible that it is true doctrine of God and Jesus Christ. I know that the Book of Mormon is the true restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I testify of this because I have read it and have applied in my life. I also had to pray and look for and wait for the answer. It has helped me and saved me in many trials. Jesus Christ loves us so much and I love him, so I follow him through everything. This gospel is important to me because there is nothing else on the earth that can bring me so much joy. I am so grateful to be a missionary and to help others know how important they are to Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving those around me, in my family, church members and community. I live my faith everyday when I pray to God and read my scriptures. By doing these things, I learn more about my Heavenly Father and my Savior Jesus Christ. It helps my faith grow. I learn of what He wants me to do and who to become. I can put more trust in Him and His plan for us. When I do good, I feel good and others around me see how strong my faith is. Lifting others makes me happy. Having faith also gives me strength to find and see the good things that have happened in my life. I best live my faith by trusting in the Lord and in Jesus Christ and their plan for us.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes! Mormons do not only read the book of Mormon but the bible as well. They are two books that go hand in hand together and one should not be without the other! They are both records of rich doctrine of the church and testimonies that teach us so much. The bible is what helped Joseph Smith pray to God asking for answers about the churches on the earth. I am grateful for the bible and its teachings. Show more Show less
