Hi I'm Derek

I'm a computer programmer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I have been married 18 years. We have seven children, which keeps us busy. I'm an enthusiastic, if not good gardener. I find working outdoors to be therapeutic. I'm a computer programmer and database administrator.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, but not simply because I was born in a Mormon family. For the first 18 years or so of my life I basically lived on autopilot, didn't really think about it. When a high school friend died, it suddenly was important to me to know, and I finally searched and asked. God let me know the truth of the things I had been taught. In this experience and at other times in my life since, God has continued to teach me and strengthen me.

How I live my faith

Living my religion goes beyond the 3 hours at Church on Sunday. It is trying to see my children the way God sees them, and being the father they deserve, the father God wants me to be to them. It is serving others, trying to follow the example of my savior, Jesus Christ. It is trying to hold the attention of half a dozen 9 year old boys in my Cub Scout den, trying to expand their horizons, to challenge them, to help them become men.
