Hi I'm Rachel

I have grown up in Utah. I am a Mormon and am soon leaving on a mission to Mexico.

About Me

I just graduated from high school and have been preparing to go on a mission. I plan to attend college and get an education afterwards. I love the outdoors and animals. Kayaking and hiking are some of my favorite activities. I also love to read, walk our family dogs, do yoga, make any kind of craft, and spend time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

As I graduated high school and started making plans for the rest of my life there were so many decisions to be made. But as I thought about what was really important to me and about what I wanted to gain from my life I realized that I just wanted to be a good person and be happy. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints helps me with these desires. Jesus was the perfect example of a good, pure person. Consequently, studying His life and trying to be like Him makes it so that I too can be a good person even though I am so flawed. As to being happy, I know that for me true happiness comes through living His teachings and being close to Him. I know that God is a god of love. He loves us and wants us to return to Him happy. That doesn't mean life will be easy; my life certainly isn't and no one else's is either. We wouldn't value and desire happiness if we didn't have to fell the lows of life. We mess up. We sin. We feel sadness. We feel alone. We feel lost. But we also feel joy, happiness, love, and peace. Life wouldn't be the same if we didn't feel a full spectrum of emotions. It is okay to feel the lows in our lives, whether we brought them upon ourselves or life just happens to us. But we can be happy as we cling to Him. He won't leave us. If you don't understand what I am trying to say, I would ask you to read the poem "Footprints in the Sand". It more eloquently talks about the Lord never leaving us in our times of sorrow, which I firmly believe to be true. Happiness can be achieved. I love Him so much. He has done so much for me. He helps me and lifts me up daily and I know that He will do the same for you if you let Him. He wants you to be happy and have a good life.

How I live my faith

As I have been preparing to go on my mission I have been able to prepare by reading the book "Preach My Gospel". It explains what is expected of a missionary and has strengthened my testimony. I also was able to help teach a group of young women and help with a class for adults called "Gospel Essentials". I have especially loved teaching Gospel Essentials because it is the Doctrine of Christ in a simple form that helps people learn and understand for the first time or just review the basics of what Christ taught.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Rachel
Mormons help everybody. We are taught to love our neighbors. That means anybody and everybody. We are all God's children and he wants us to be kind towards everyone. Show more Show less
