Hi I'm Kelsey

I grew up in Utah. I love volunteering. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

In high school I was the classic nerd, I was overly involved in everything (National Honor Society, Chem Club, Psych Club, FCCLA, etc.). I graduated High School with an Associates Degree and went of to college. I want to be a lawyer when I'm done with school, specifically an intellectual property lawyer. I am a nerd through and through. I love reading books of all genres. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, Harry Potter, Firefly, and OUAT. I love volunteering, especially with youth and striving to help people make themselves better.

Why I am a Mormon

Just over a year ago my cousin passed away. During this time, I seriously doubted everything that I grew up believing and really contemplated why if God existed and loved us so much, why would he take my cousin away. My cousin was like an older sister to me and I looked to her for advice on everything from makeup, clothing, boys, to school and what I should do with my life. She was a confidant, an advocate, and more than anything my best friend. I mean why would God take someone from my life who was still vital to my progression and growth. It didn't help that everywhere I turned the gospel seemed to be shoved in my face reminding me that through the Plan of Salvation I would be able to see my cousin again and she wasn't really gone. However, at the time that is not what I needed and I gradually drew away from the gospel. It took me a while, but I started to pray again and I started to read my scriptures and remember the things that I had been taught as a kid and God came back into my life. God was telling me that it was okay to be angry and frustrated, but my cousin was needed elsewhere and one day I would see her again. I also came to realize that the only one who truly knew what I was going through was God and as I turned to him more and more I realized that even though I had turned away from him, he had always been there for me. I then read the Book of Mormon again with real desire in my heart to know if the church was true and came to find for myself through personal revelation that it was the true church and its doctrines were true.

How I live my faith

As a youth, I was always involved in church in various presidencies and positions. When I went off to college I stayed just as involved. I was a visiting teacher and loved visiting and getting to know the girls I visited as well as my companion. I also served as a gospel doctrine teacher for my peers. As a teacher, I felt inadequate teaching college kids my own age who were smarter, more mature, and in every way better than me. However, over time I grew to realize that it did not matter that I was an inadequate teacher because the Lord was always on my side helping me to teach my peers what they needed to learn and through his help I became an exceptional teacher.
