Hi I'm Derek

I grew up in Portugal and in the United States. I'm the second of four children and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have graduated from high school and plan to go to college studying mechanical engineering after serving a mission. I was born in the U.S. but moved to Portugal at the age of 1 and lived there for four years before returning to the United States. I enjoy music, books, movies, running, and doing hands on projects.

Why I am a Mormon

I have grown up in the Church. I was raised as a Mormon my entire life. I love the gospel's teachings about families being eternal and the emphasis on service and following the example of Christ. By following the standards and teachings of the Church I have felt the Holy Ghost touch my heart and I have seen and felt the blessings and tender mercies of the Lord in my every day life. I know that this gospel leads us to eternal joy and happiness with our loved ones. I have seen the Lord's hand in all things and know that by following his commandments, we will be blessed beyond our comprehension.

How I live my faith

I've had many opportunities to serve others in my church callings. I've been able to be involved with organizing and carrying out activities for youth with special needs. I have served in a council with youth, advisers, and teachers to coordinate and plan activities for the Seminary program to teach youth and bring them closer to God. As a home teacher I have the chance to visit a few families each month to check up on their well being both spiritual and temporal. Serving in the Church has brought me closer to Christ and helped me have a happier and more fulfilling life.
