Hi I'm Cortez

I'm from Pasco Washington. I love sharing the knowledge I have of the Gospel. I'm leaving in Nov. to serve a mission in Russia.

About Me

I've lived in Pasco Washington all my life. I have an older sister who is married, an older brother who just served a mission and is now going to BYUI, a brother who is a senior in high school and a brother in middle school. I just graduated from High School and College because I did the running start program where I went to college during my junior and senior year and earned my Associates degree. I've always loved playing sports. I did Soccer and Swim team when I was younger and in High school I played Football, Basketball and ran Track. My football Team was in the biggest classification and we made it to the state championship game in the Tacoma Dome both my Junior and Senior year. The first time, we won with an amazing come back in the last minute. the second year we lost but I played my best game in my high school time. I love Track and Field and plan to run Track in college after my mission. I am an Eagle Scout and some other hobbies include playing the piano and working out. I'm excited to serve the Lord in the Russia Novosibirsk Mission for two years. I enter the Mission Training Center in November 2015.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm blessed to have good parents who have raised our family in righteousness and showed us that our lives are centered on God. But my parents could only show me the right path and it was up to me to follow it. I was disciplined well and learned to be respectful and obedient. So when it came to a point in my life when I wanted to feel God in my life more, I began putting a lot more effort into the details of my life. I focused on doing as my Father in Heaven would have me do. I earnestly prayed and studied the scriptures every day. The more important desires of my heart began to change. I become more aligned with the will of God. I began to grow and feel the Lord's presence in my life. My faith, knowledge and understanding continued to grow to the point where I now have a strong testimony and unwavering faith. I am still continuing to grow and will continue for the rest of my life. This church has the fullness of the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ. This church provided me the tools I needed to enlighten my understanding and come closer to My Heavenly Father and Savior. Everything in this gospel makes complete sense and feels so right that I have no reason to doubt. I know it for myself and I know why it's important.

How I live my faith

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints isn't about going to church on Sunday then calling it good for the rest of the week. God wants us to live our life serving him and acting as Christ would in all that we do. This is not just my religion, it's my life, and that's how it's supposed to be. There are many callings and responsibilities in this church. No one goes to school, or chooses for themselves, what responsibility they want to have. We are all called upon by leaders who are inspired through the Holy Ghost, just as they were. Christ is at the head of this church because it is his church, which he restored in these, the latter days. Having responsibilities in the church keep me consistent in the service of God and remind me who I am. Since the Church is God's Kingdom on the Earth I am privileged to hold the priesthood, which is the power and authority of God to administer and officiate in sacred things. Holding this priesthood reminds me to live pure so that I may be worthy of it. I love going to church each week where it feels like family. I receive the spiritual refreshment that I need every Sunday. There are many organizations in the church that also help to lift us. I enjoyed going to seminary every day in high school and now I participate in Institute. I make it a priority to go to every church gathering, meeting, council or class that is provided. I have learned that we must study our scriptures and pray daily. I live my life centered on Jesus Christ. My life would be completely different without this church. I'd be left out in the world wandering like a lost sheep with a small understanding of life's purpose.
