Hi I'm Spencer

I live in Salt Lake City. My wife and I have 4 kids and 2 businesses. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father first. That is my passion, being a solid husband and father. I love to hang out with my family. I just finished MBA school at the University of Utah. It was hard, going to school and working full time, and being a dad. But it was worth it because I like a challenge and I feel like a grew a lot. Some of my hobbies (or what my hobbies would be if I had more time) are fly fishing, golf, biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, reading, cooking (BBQing) and traveling. My wife and I really like to go to the movies. We don't go often, but it is something we both enjoy. I like to go to sporting events, Jazz games, UofU football games and Real soccer games. And I like to work. I like to get my hands dirty and accomplish something. There is something so fulfilling about starting a project and seeing it through to completion.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into The Church, but I have my own conversion. When I was quite young, 6 or 7 years old, my family went to see the Church historical sites in the Eastern US. I remember we visited the Sacred Grove, where Joseph Smith had his first vision and saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We were there in the afternoon and were just walking around enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Before we left I suggested to my parents that we should have a family prayer. I don't remember what was said, but I do remember how I felt. I had never felt so much love come over my body, a feeling of warmth and goodness. I know this was the Holy Spirit testifying to be of the importance of that place and that the events that Joseph said took place there, actually did. Since that day my testimony has continued to grow. I have struggles, who doesn't? But when I do I try to remind myself of that day, the day the day the Spirit confirmed to me that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Because of that testimony I have been able to believe in the Book of Mormon and its teachings. I have gained a testimony of Jesus Christ and His Atonement. I know He lived for me and for you, that He died for me and you, and that he rose from the dead, and that because of all of that I can be forgiven of my sins and shortcomings through repentance and live again with Him.

How I live my faith

I oversee the teaching in our ward as the Sunday School President. I really enjoy this as I get to help others improve their teaching skills while improving my own. I also get to teach lessons every once is while. I feel like this is when I learn the most about me and the gospel. I really try to live my faith on a daily basis. I feel like there is a lot animosity between groups of people with different beliefs or ideas, and it goes both ways. I just try to be kind to everyone, and accept them for who they are. I try to see their point of view and understand where they are coming from. I feel like this is what Christ would do if he were here. When He was here on earth, not everyone agreed with him or what he taught, but he loved them regardless. I am trying to do the same.
