Hi I'm Ralph

I grew up in Northern Ireland and joined the Mormon Church in 1957. I emigrated to the US in 1964, served 25 yrs in the military.

About Me

I'm a grandfather with 10 grandchildren and happily married for 48 years. I majored in Chemical Engineering at University. I have served as a missionary for the Church in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and in the United States. I retired from the US Military in 1985 and from my civilian occupation in 2012, after 26 years as a Process Control Analyst in Petroleum Refining.

Why I am a Mormon

I was taught about the church by missionaries in Northern Ireland for approximately a year. They stressed that I just shouldn't accept their word for the teachings but to find out for myself through study and prayer if it was true. I did just that and received answer to that prayer that the experience of Joseph Smith actually happened and that the Book of Mormon was indeed ancient scripture translated by him under the tutelage of ancient prophets. I have been a student of the Church's doctrine and History since becoming a member. I cherish those doctrines because they bring me closer to the Lord Jesus Christ and have provided a firm foundation for life. I have gained an appreciation also of the faith and heritage of those who are not members of this church. I know that this is the restored Church Of Jesus Christ and I know of my own fallibility. I join with the Apostle Paul as he wrote in his epistle to the Romans that sometimes " the good I would, I do not. The evil I would not, that I do." (see Romans 1:7). I would invite all to investigate and "try the doctrines" and discover that they are a verdant meadow in a dusty and thirsty landscape. I feel as the poet Wordsworth felt, in his special place, "And I have felt A presence that disturbs me with the joy Of elevated thoughts; a sense sublime Of something far more deeply interfused, Whose dwelling is the light of setting suns, And the round ocean and the living air, And the blue sky, and in the mind of man; A motion and a spirit, that impels All thinking things, all objects of all thought, And rolls through all things." This how I feel about my associations with the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

It has been a wonderful experience to be a member of the church. I have served in many different assignments over the last 58 years. I mention just two, as a scoutmaster and as a Sunday School Teacher. I enjoy reading the scriptures, history, philosophy, and politics. I am an avid follower of aircraft design. and all things related to aviation.
