Hi I'm Jodee

I live on the beautiful Gold Coast of Australia. I'm a carer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm a daughter, sister, aunty, cousin, wife, friend and stay at home Mum. I have two beautiful daughters and a loving husband. I enjoy reading books, living near the beach, nature, eating wonderful food and I love to laugh. I was really a serious kind of person when I married my husband 16 years ago but now we seem to laugh a lot and I think his cheekiness has rubbed off on me. Our kids are cheeky too. My husband and eldest daughter have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. My daughter also has attention deficit disorder and anxiety. It means our family life is a little different. We are mostly laughing and smiling. Sometimes things are really hard but we support each other and just keep on going. I'm certainly not perfect, and I don't have a perfect family but we love each other and God so much that we are happy anyway.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon or a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was baptised. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it. When I prayed to find out if it was true I had a strong feeling it was. I felt God telling me it was true in my heart. My decision to be baptised was the best choice I feel I've ever made. I've made some good choices in other areas of my life but being baptised has absolutely brought the most lasting happiness into my life. My faith continues to grow as I try to live Jesus' commandments, go to church each Sunday, pray and read the scriptures. When I do these things I have a similar feeling to when I prayed about the book of Mormon. I can feel that I'm doing what God wants me to do. I love the Bible and scripture reading is important to me. We read as a family and my husband and I read together each morning and night too. I feel really blessed that I can go to the New Testament and read accounts of Jesus' miracles and teachings. I feel like I get to know Him when I read about Him. My favourite Bible scripture this week is Isaiah Chapter 53:4-10 and my favorite in the Book of Mormon scripture is 3 Nephi Chapter 18:20. I think that I'm a better family member, neighbour, citizen and friend because I believe in Jesus Christ. I love being part of His restored church. Not a new church, but the same organization that Jesus Christ Himself instituted when He was on the earth. I share the gospel with my family and friends because living it gives me a deep peace, contentment and happiness. I want them to enjoy life and have the same happiness I experience even when things aren't perfect in life.

How I live my faith

I used to teach Sunday School at church to some great teenagers (16-18 year olds) but this year I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia so I'm unable to teach anymore. I still get to church though and sometimes I can stay for all the classes. I love going to Sacrament meeting the best. I love praying and singing with other people who believe in God. After church I always feel like I have the spiritual strength to face another week. Although it is a struggle to care for my children and support my husband now that I am not very well I know that God is helping me to be happy each day and find ways to manage. My Autistic daughter has begun hanging out most of the washing to help and my youngest puts away most of the clean dishes. My husband cooks a lot of dinners and helps out in any way he can. I feel so close to God when I pray and I know that He hears all prayers that are said to Him and that He loves each of us, His children, and wants us to be happy. I don't think He's waiting for us to be perfect to love us. I think He's glad when we do the best we can and when we get back up and try again when we get something wrong. I know that God helps me be happy even though things aren't perfect in my life.
