Hi I'm Pauline Sonntag

I'm a Utahn who loves to sew, play the piano, be a grandmother, garden, bake bread, and walk every morning. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

For 38 years, my husband and I have lived in a small coal mining town several hours away from extended family. We have loved it! We were able to esablish our own traditions with our six children, and those traditions have kept us a close-knit group. I have taught piano lessons for 30 years and love to accompany choirs. Sewing is my passion and I feel like I have not accomplished much during the day if I have not completed a sewing project. Designing quilts and quilting them has been rewarding for me. Each of my 15 grandchildren have received a hand-pieced quilt from Grandma on their arrival into this world. I start each morning with a walk. I love being outside in the early morning, taking in the beautiful world that was created for us. I just love living!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon first because of my Mormon Pioneer ancestry. From 1845, my ancestors became Mormons, and their children, and their children, down to me. I love to read their conversion stories and what they gave up to be Mormons. I was baptized by my father when I was 8 years old and have known no other life. But through the years, I have gained a testimony of my own that this is the restored church of Jesus Christ on the earth today. So, I am a Mormon second because of my own testimony. I feel the love of my Savior and that He is aware of everyone. My father recently died (one month shy of his 100th birthday). He was a WWII Veteran and had never been publically acknowledged for the service he rendered. 6 weeks before he died, he was accepted to be on the Utah Honor Flight, a program that flies veterans to Washington D.C. to see their war memorial. He was so excited to go with me on that trip, but was experienciing difficult health problems - severe diarrhea! His whole family fasted for him that he would have the health needed to go on the trip. Up to the day before, he was still so ill. But he enjoyed perfect health the 3 days we were in Washington. I was with him to experience the miracle Heavenly Father provived for him. He was aware of my father, and I know he is aware of me.

How I live my faith

Because I play the piano, I have had the pleasure of sharing that talent in my church callings and in the community. I have accompanied the ward choir for 20 years, played for the primary for several years, and recently accompanied a group of college students at their institute of religion. Music is a wonderful gift from God, and I am fortunate to be able to enjoy it. Teaching and leading has always frightened me, but I have had many opportunities to try to overcome those fears, such as being the Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Stake Primary President, and Stake Girl's Camp Leader - twice! How I have learned as I put my faith in Jesus Christ that I can do hard things.
