Hi I'm Jakob Newton

I grew up a member in a small town in California. I am serving a mission in the Buenos Aires West Mission, Argentina.

About Me

I am a member of the church and have been all my life. I was raised as the youngest child out of a family of 9. 4 older brothers and 4 older sisters. I am serving my mission in Argentina and then plan to go to Utah for school and go through ROTC to become an officer in the Air Force. I am the fourth man in my family to serve a mission. I like soccer and rugby and I like to do things that are in the outdoors like hiking or just taking road trips. I love different cultures and accents. I am so young that I have been an only child for the 3 years following up to my mission, but now that i am an adult my brothers and sisters and I have gotten closer. I love graham crackers and milk!!! I have grown up in a conservative home and have gained those conservative values myself. I earned the top rank in JROTC in High School and graduated in the top 20. I try to be creative and enjoy being around people who can have good conversations and who can make better jokes than me.

Why I am a Mormon

Having 8 older siblings I have seen a lot in my life, and have been through a lot myself. I have learned that the power of the atonement and following Christ brings peace and joy into my life and being able to have an eternal life perspective and not just a temporal perspective is so amazing! My conversion story happened one night as I was praying outside the temple before a youth fireside. It was in my senior year. I was asking God if these things are true and how I can know it. I prayed for answers, but at that moment I did not get one. There was a youth fireside that night and I went to attend it. The speaker said everything I had prayed about, and at the end of his talk he said, "I don't know why i talked about all that, but I felt like I had to." At this moment I knew the Lord had answered my prayers through someone else. I am a LDS because I know the Gospel is true and has been restored in its fullness by God through the prophet Joseph Smith and the diligence of the Saints.

How I live my faith

I am an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and have been active in JROTC in High School doing many service projects in both programs. In my ward I used to be on the youth council. I have been recently helping and participating in the YSA weird where I live doing service in and outside the ward. I go out with the missionaries or do companionship study with them quite often and that is a very good way to prepare for a mission and to keep our faith strong. I would give my life for this faith and do all I can to spread the message of our loving Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ because this is the true church of Jesus Christ I am a Mormon, I live it, I am it, and I love it!

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon temples? What goes on in Mormon temples?

Jakob Newton
The temple is a very sacred place, sacred but not secret. Members who are able to honestly answer certain questions that are given by God to be asked for worthiness. Only baptized members are aloud to go into the temple because in the temple we make covenants and go through ordinances that are stepping stones to the celestial kingdom, having greater temporal and eternal joy. In temples we make sacred covenants between us and our Heavenly Father and participate in sacred ordinances as to make our way to live an eternal life with our Father in Heaven. Ordinances and sacred covenants the same as given to Adam. Show more Show less
