Hi I'm Jacob

I'm an older brother of two siblings. I love being with friends, playing basketball, and visiting the mountains. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in the Church, and was blessed to have great friends that I grew up with there, but through playing basketball, football and other sports I've been able to make a lot of great friends of other faiths and beliefs. We love to be a little bit geeky, and lots of days we come home from practice or a game and sit down together to play Dungeons & Dragons or computer games together. I've also been taking piano lessons and playing in competitions since I was five years old, and I've been able to meet and interact with many amazing people as a result of that too. This sort of balance and variety, and participating in many different things that interest me is what allows me to meet people and build friendships, and what ties many of my friends and I together and has helped us to be close friends and trust in each other despite different beliefs. I'm preparing to serve a full-time mission, and I'm both nervous and excited. As of now I don't know what my plans in life are beyond that, but I hope and have faith that I'll figure it out as I focus on my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

Throughout my life, my faith has brought me great happiness and comfort when I've needed it. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I've been able to find a sense of purpose and meaning to life and to my actions that would be impossible without it. I am a Mormon because it brings me joy to know that Heavenly Father is loving, and merciful, and has a perfect plan for all of us. I know the Book of Mormon is true, and I know there is a living prophet today. When I live the standards of the Church, when I read my scriptures and pray, when I serve others, I feel good, and I'm happier, no matter else is going on in my life. Knowing that God loves us, and has a plan, puts life into perspective; it makes the good times sweeter and makes trials easier to bear. I am a Mormon because it brings me joy and happiness.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving as a leader in my Church youth group, by home teaching families that I've grown to love and admire, and by maintaining my standards as I go about my daily life. In sports, especially during out of town tournaments or team trips, there can be pressure to do or participate in things that contradict those standards. While I've been fortunate to have great teams and friends that support my decisions and my beliefs, I've still faced trying situations. I live my faith as I defend my standards and am obedient. I live my faith as I serve others in my community, and as I serve to prepare a mission. Finally, I live my faith as I read the Book of Mormon and work on my relationship with our loving Heavenly Father.

What is being a Mormon like?

Jacob
Honestly, it's fun! The people are loving and supportive, and it's easy to find good friends in the Church. There are lots of fun activities and groups to get involved in. It's a happy way to live too. You feel a connection with your Heavenly Father, the standards you live by help you to live free of addictions and other problems that cause a lot of stress and sorrow in today's world, and the warm feeling you get as you read the scriptures, serve others, and learn more about the gospel is impossible to describe.
