Hi I'm Emma McNeely

I'm the oldest of five. I'm a musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 19 years old and have completed a year of college as a violin performance major with a minor in visual arts. Music has always been an important part of my life. I began playing the piano at age four and the violin at age 7. As far as I know, I've always been singing. Drawing and writing are also important to me. Someday, I hope to use my musical, artistic, and writing skills together to accomplish something good. As far as other interests go, I love to read, spend time with my family, work in the garden, try new recipes, make birthday cards, study other languages and cultures, and learn new things. Currently, I am serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so I've grown up surrounded by it's teachings and culture. As a child, I relied on my parents testimonies--their knowledge that the Church's teachings are true. I believed them with complete faith. However, as I got older, I began to want to know for myself. I wanted to know if God was really there, if Jesus truly died for everyone's sins, if the Book of Mormon is true, among other things. Thus began a lifetime quest to build a personal testimony. It's like putting together a puzzle--it comes one little piece at a time. I still have questions and things I need to learn, but as I have prayed daily, read my scriptures daily, kept the commandments of God, attended Church meetings regularly, and done my best to follow God's will, I have found many of those puzzle pieces. I now know for myself that God is real and that He loves us. I know Jesus did pay the price for our sins through His Atonement. And I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, just like the Bible. The light, peace, and joy I have found in living the gospel of Jesus Christ is undeniable. I'm who I am today because I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Church has always been a central part of my life. I love attending our 3-hr block of meetings each Sunday because of the peace I feel and the things I learn. Recently, I taught an adult Sunday School class every Sunday and helped prepare activities twice a month for the girls ages 8-11. Now I am serving for 18 months as a missionary. Once I finish my 9 weeks in the Missionary Training Center, I will head to Hong Kong. My time there will be spent inviting others to come unto Christ by following His example and teachings as taught in the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I believe that God gives each of us certain talents and abilities for a reason. He expects us to use them to bless the lives of those around us. One way I try to do this is by using my musical talents to uplift others. I've witnessed over and over again how simple acts, like playing a hymn on the violin, can make a huge difference for good.
