Hi I'm Josh Newbold

I grew up in South Jordan, Utah. I love to play basketball, piano, guitar, sing, and the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am six feet and seven inches tall and I love to play basketball. I am currently serving an LDS mission in the Minneapolis, Minnesota mission, but when I get back I will play basketball at Dixie State University. I am super excited for that! I like to play any kind of sports, and I also really like to watch sports of all kinds. I also love music, pretty much any genre. I play the piano, ukulele, guitar, and I enjoy to sing. I love fishing, water sports, camping, and hiking, but I love doing anything outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for a lot of reasons. I believe that this church has the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that this church has the keys to the holy priesthood of God, something no other church in the world has. I was born into the LDS church, but I continue to follow the principles of the Gospel and remain an active member because I believe that it is true. I first began to gain a testimony of the Gospel for myself when I was 11 or 12 years old. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time. I read the whole thing, and after I was finished with reading it, I got down on my knees and prayed to know if it was true or not. As I prayed, I knew it was true, and that the rest of the Gospel was true as well. I knew that this was where I needed to be, that I needed to follow the example of Christ, and live the Gospel my whole life. It has been a continual process, and I still am growing my testimony. But I still know to this day that the church is true, that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, that the Book of Mormon is also the word of God, and that President Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God. I know that if we allow it to, the Gospel will change our lives for the better. I am so grateful that Christ suffered for my sins, so that I can return to him someday. I can't ever forget what Christ did for me. I make mistakes all the time, but it is very comforting to me that I can always repent and continue down the path of righteousness. The gospel is true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a lot of different ways, but the main way I am living right now, is by serving as a missionary. Serving a mission consists of a lot of different things, but my main responsibility as a missionary consists of sharing the Gospel with others. We do this in a variety of different ways, and you may have run into missionaries like me before. We can often be seen walking or riding bikes down the street. It has been a real blessing in my life to have the opportunity to serve a mission. I have been able to strengthen my testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel, and expand my faith in Jesus Christ. It has also been awesome to help others come closer to Christ, which really is our purpose as missionaries.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Josh Newbold
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the most important event in all of history. Jesus Christ voluntarily came and suffered because he loves us and he wants what is best for us. His atonement enables us to repent and return to heaven. The atonement of Christ consisted of his suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. He suffered the pains, afflictions, temptations, and sorrows of all mankind. We as imperfect human beings, cannot return to our Heavenly Father by ourselves. We sin and make mistakes all the time, but because he suffered for our sins, we can be forgiven. He suffered, so we do not have to. Some of the things we must do to access the power of the atonement is to have faith in Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, be baptized by immersion, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end.
