Hi I'm Emily

I'm a triathlete, a nutrition student, a prospective Physician's Assistant, a lover of life, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a lover of all things outdoors, and an aspiring triathlete. I love camping, backpacking, being out in the moutains, on the trails, or anywhere outside. I love running, biking, and swimming and plan to continue as an endurance athlete all the days of my life. I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle, and currently study nutritional science at Brigham Young University. I love learning about so many different things, especially the sciences, history, art, philosophy, and music. I love talking with other people and learning about their history and lives and opinions, especially people from different cultures and backgrounds than myself. I plan to attend PA school upon graduating from BYU, and encourage holistic medicine and lifestyle changes as a way to promote health and prevent illness. I am also passionate about working with autoimmune diseases, addiction recovery, and mental health, but we will see where life takes me! I also have a very strong desire to practice medicine in developing countries, and help improve the healthcare system in more rural parts of the world. I want to backpack across Europe and Africa, and hope to visit Central and South America as a service doctor. Above all, my greatest desire is to one day have a happy family that cherishes the Gospel of Jesus Christ, loves others unconditionally, and strives to serve selflessly. If my only achievement on this earth is that I loved my family and all those I met wholeheartedly, I would be satisfied.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon for so many reasons, but the main being because it teaches the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the reason I live joyfully. This Church contains as many truths as God has revealed up to this point. I believe other churches contain truth, but that this church contains ALL of God's teachings. I am Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God; I love that Book & the lessons it teaches. I know that we can all have a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father & I cherish that truth. He wants to speak with us & through the Holy Ghost this becomes possible. I am so grateful for the gift of the Holy Ghost, a beautiful blessing available to those who are baptized & confirmed a member of the Church by Priesthood authority. I have been asked by God many times throughout my short life to put my trust in Him completely. As a 19 year old, more than anything I desired to serve a full-time mission. But when the call came, I knew the timing was off. Fast forward 3 years, I'm about to graduate from BYU. I'm pursing triathlons, preparing to apply to PA school, working in research labs, anxiously serving others, & loving life. After much prayer through a trying time in my life, I unexpectedly feel prompted to serve a mission. I will be serving in the McAllen Texas Mission from Nov. 2015-May 2017. I do not always understand why God asks certain things of us, & I do not always understand His timing, but I do know that He has a perfect plan for each of us, His children. If we are willing to give our lives over to Him, He will make greater things of us than we ever could alone. He loves us more deeply than we can comprehend & wants us to be eternally happy. No matter the struggles & fears we may face I know the Lord can carry our burdens. He has provided peace & hope to me in my most hopeless moments. He is my light when life seems dark & lonely. I will trust in Him, I will lean on Him forever, for He is my rock, my foundation, my salvation.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by my day-to-day actions. I strive to emulate the example of my Savior by serving those in need every day. I try to make simple service a part of my daily life, either by serving friends and family or in my job as a Nursing Assistant. I believe that this gospel is a gospel of pure intent, meaning that we must be genuinely converted unto Christ in our hearts and souls rather than just our words or deeds. I believe kindness and love are at the core of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I want those things to be the driving force behind all I do. I wholeheartedly believe in the transcendent power of living by the statement, "Do small things with great love." I have always felt a deep connection to the people that Christ might describe as the "least of these", meaning those people who face steep trials in their lives. As a disciple of Christ, I desire to serve and teach these people all the days of my life. As a disciple of Christ, I also strive to live my faith by putting my trust in God completely. This means always trusting in His plan, His timing, and His desires for my life, even when they are completely different from my own. I believe we can learn the will of God for our personal lives through prayer; how incredible that Loving Father has blessed us with a means to can communicate with Him regarding all aspects of our lives. A quote I strive to live by, "You want to be good and to do good, and that is commendable. But the greatest achievement that can be reached in our lives is to be under the complete influence of the Holy Ghost. Then, He will teach us what is really good and necessary to do." I strive to live my life in this manner, according to the will and direction of God in both the small and large parts of my life.
