Hi I'm Cassie Underly

I'm from the Great State of Texas, I play soccer, I'm an avid reader, and I'm preparing to serve a mission in Las Vegas, Nevada.

About Me

I grew up in Texas and recently finished my freshman year at Brigham Young University. I have always had a love of reading and learning, which lead to deciding to major in English and, upon my recent travels to Spain, minor in Spanish. I went to Spain for a study abroad program Winter of 2015 and had chocolate and churros every single week. I have also traveled to Germany and Switzerland and I can certainly vouch for their magnificent chocolate skills. I have played soccer since I was 3 years old, and have been a fan of Chelsea FC since I was 11. Reading for me is like breathing; I literally cannot live without it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because a boy named Joseph Smith decided to kneel in prayer and ask a simple question of which church was the true church. I am a Mormon because the Book of Mormon, translated by Joseph Smith through the power of God, is the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book., and we also believe that other books, like the Bible are also true, as far as they are translated correctly, which is particularly important to me because I hold books very near and dear to my heart. I am a Mormon because I know my family, past, present, and future, can live together for time and all eternity. I am a Mormon because I know that death has no sting. I am a Mormon because my Savior, my Redeemer, my Brother, my Best Friend, even Jesus Christ, has borne all my pains, sorrows, afflictions, and deeply knows my most honest and raw fears and anxieties, and died for my sins, so that I may live alongside Him and my loving Heavenly Father again. I am a Mormon because I fail, and I am imperfect, and I am forgetful and I make mistakes everyday, but I can repent and be made clean through the everlasting Atonement of Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because I have a Father in Heaven who loves me infinitely and unconditionally, and knows me by name, and that He is on my team, fighting for me, cheering me on, smiling when I am happy and weeping when I am sad, and He will never give up on me. I am a Mormon because I know where I came from, why I am here, and where I am going. I am a Mormon because it provides me hope and happiness and calms my soul in an otherwise chaotic and wicked world. I am a Mormon, and for that I am endlessly grateful.

How I live my faith

I have participated in multiple youth leadership callings in my home ward while growing up in Texas. I am very close to many of the women in my home ward who I admire immensely, and their examples aided in my decision to dedicate myself to serving the Lord on an 18 month mission. I have also served as a Gospel Doctrine teacher in my Young Single Adult ward. While attending BYU I taught English at a middle school through the Centro Hispano program, as well as helped build houses for families in the community. I love reaching out to others, because ultimately, by making others happy, I seem to gain this joy not found in material items or popularity or wealth. I gain this joy from the friendships I make with those I serve, and from the bonds that are formed when serving alongside people I did not know 20 minutes prior. When we are serving others, we are ultimately serving God, and that is where I get my happiness from.
