Hi I'm Larry Myers

I'm a civil engineer and have had the opportunity to travel the world working on large construction projects.

About Me

The most important thing in my life is my family. I am married with three children and twelve grand children. All of these people bring great joy into my life. I enjoy traveling and photography with the hope that someday I will be able to take the perfect picture - preferably of an ancient castle or an exotic animal. I've been lucky enough to live on three continents and visit all the rest except Antarctica. I am astounded by the beauty of the world we live in and all the wonderful things that Heavenly Father created. One of my claims to fame is that I'd never caught a fish. This ended when I had the opportunity to salmon fish in Alaska a handful of years ago. I fell in love with the beauty and serenity of the Alaskan countryside and catching salmon was extremely exciting. I know go back nearly every year to renew the experience.

Why I am a Mormon

Heavenly Father's plan of happiness gives me purpose in life. I know that this plan comes from God and will let us return to His presence. I feel at peace among all of the problems of the world because I know where I am going and understand Heavenly Father's plan to get me there. I am so grateful for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that allows us to repent of our sins so that one day I can return to His presence. I know that there is a living prophet today, Thomas S. Monson, who directs the Lord's work and is able to point me in the right direction when I encounter problems that are typical of today's world. I know that the church is true and that it's teachings will help me follow the path back to my Heavenly Father. I love the Book of Mormon and have read it many times. If you want to have the same comfort that I feel, then I challenge you to read the Book of Mormon, to contemplate it's teachings and to pray to Heavenly Father about its truthfulness. I know he will answer your prayers.

How I live my faith

For many years I've had the opportunity to teach and work with the youth in our LDS congregation. The young people of today are an incredible generation and I am confident that they will be able to right many of the problems that previous generations created. I've also served my community by working on various volunteer committees that include the Board of Directors for Tracy Aviary, the only aviary in Salt Lake City, and the Public Utilities Advisory Committee which helps Salt Lake City's water department to meet the needs of the individuals in our community. I recently retired and have tutored third graders in math and reading. That was fun! When my wife and I raised our children we held weekly family home evenings; discussing the principles of the gospel and why they are important to live. This helped them to strengthen their testimonies and to understand God's plan. We also read the scriptures daily with them.
