Hi I'm Mike Westgate

I am an Englishman who lives in Northern Ireland, I am a Mormon

About Me

I started my career as a Physical Education teacher in Guildford, Surrey. I moved to teach in Dorking and finished my teaching career as a Deputy Head Teacher. I have always been interested in sport and played hockey, cricket, and fencing. I spent a lot of time coaching sport and eventually decided to concentrate on fencing. I have attended one Olympic Games as a coach and many World and European Championships with both the British and Irish teams. I moved to live in Northern Ireland in 2000 and was appointed full time National Fencing Coach and now combine this with the role of Performance Director. I have been able to travel to many countries with the fencing teams.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church after meeting with Missionaries when I was living in Guildford, Surrey. I spent a lot of time thinking about the Church as was eventually baptised. I stopped attending the Church but never gave up my beliefs in the truth of the teachings of the Church. When I moved to Northern Ireland I visited the United States and went to Salt Lake City. I realized that the spiritual part was missing in my life and after some time meet the Missionaries. After prayer and study I began attending the Church again. I know that the Book of Mormon is the true and with the Bible helps to give us a knowledge of the true way. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that we have a Prophet on this earth today. I am a son of the Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is our saviour.

How I live my faith

When I returned to the Church I worked with the youth and enjoyed organising events for and with them. I must admit that I avoided camping. I now work with the High Priest group. In the past I have taught in Sunday School. I enjoy home teaching and find that it helps to strengthen my faith and testimony.
