Hi I'm Parker DuVall Riggs

Lover of life, half German, longboarder, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I absolutely adore and love life. It is truly a gift from God and I believe so strongly in living it to its fullest. Friends and relationships are something that I truly cherish. I believe having connections with others that are special and personal to you is also another gift God has given us. He gives us and sends us those to play a part in our lives and help us become closer to our savior Jesus Christ. I love hanging out and catching up with my friends, longboarding under the moon and stars, and being able to share my passions and hobbies with others. I love cultured and languages and am currently serving for two years in Berlin Germany. I am half German and am excited to learn more about my heritage and speak the language of my mother. I laugh....a lot. Sometimes it's awkward especially when someone tells a joke that only I find funny and no one else laughs. However on the opposite end of the spectrum I also love and find so much joy in making others laugh. Laughter is truly the best medicine and can heal broken hearts and spirits and it's something I cherish when I can brighten someone else's day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in this church. A lot of misconeptions about the church involve ones that speak about who we as raised mormons are brainwashed. Many say because you are raised this way that is naturally the way you will live while yes being raised in this church helps us choose a path to take that does not mean however I will blindly follow my faith because my parents told me to. As a child I had been told this church was true and I relied on my parents testimony. However a testimony is much like a toothbrush, you can use your parents but it's better and nicer to have your own. There was a time in my life to be honest when I wanted to go my seperate ways and I felt like being independant from this church would be much better off then being a part of it. Well for those who have been off the path they know exactly what that is like and I realized very fast that the path I left was something I longed for. Temporal pleasures from video games or sticking with the crowd did not satisfy my craving to be loved or to be at peace. I am Mormon simply because I know this church to be true and I know the things of this world do not compare that to the things of the gospel. I am a Mormon because true joy and true love comes from a loving Heavenly Father. I have felt the Love of God and that right there was enough for me to know without a doubt that this indeed is the path in which I need to be on. Something that I have always loved is seeing change in people happen in which people come out of a very dark place and find the light in their lives again. Because I experienced this change I get the wonderful opportunity to help others that I so love find the light. When everything seems hopeless and when it seems no one will hear you shout out for help the gospel always pierces and casts the darkness out of peoples lives. That is why I love this church and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am so grateful to be a part of this church and I live my faith by living this gospel. I believe strongly in helping others come closer to christ. There are many people who say when we live the gospel we will always be happy. To an extent that is true but life is also filled with hard times and trials and sadness and all those negative emotions that we do not want to experiene. However because of this gospel we can have peace. It doesn't matter what happens. When I live this gospel the so called "Rules" that I follow keep me safe from spiritual and physical harm and that makes me a lot happier than I could be. As humans our main goal, I believe, is to be happy. The pursuit of happiness so to say. That will always be one thing that people are searching for. Many try to find it through temporal things such as pop culture, fame, media, and other such things. These things may bring us temporal happiness and a fleeting moment of joy, however, the way I find eternal happiness is when I follow Jesus Christ and when I help others come unto christ.

How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?
