Hi I'm Avanel

I'm a convert. I'm a student. I'm an adventurer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was baptized into the Church at the age of eight, after the rest of my family had taken the discussions and been baptized. I have since been an active member of the church and am serving a full-time mission in Omaha, Nebraska. I'm a student at BYUI. I grew up in the beautiful state of Colorado and have a deep love for the mountains and all things outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because my relationship with my Savior now makes me a better a happier person. My family can be together forever, even after death. We have a light and the Savior's love in our home and our relationships are infinitely better with each other. This Church and gospel makes me happy. It gives me the perspective I need when things get hard. It gives me the peace and comfort I need when I experience loss. This gospel provides light and understanding to all those who are willing to seek. If you search with an earnest heart, the door will be opened to you and you will feel the everlasting love of the Savior and the gospel.

How I live my faith

I'm serving a mission in Omaha, Nebraska. There I will teach the people and provide service for those in need. I work with the youth and other students to help them learn about the gospel.

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

The Restoration of the gospel occurred when the conditions were right, and Heavenly Father was ready to reach out to his children again in love. Joseph Smith heard the promptings and whisperings of the spirit and wanted to know for himself which of the churches was true. Joseph Smith went into a grove of trees, and knelt in prayer to his Heavenly Father. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him, and he later described the experience: “I saw a pillar of light, exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me…When the light rested upon me I saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other- This is My Beloved Son, Hear Him! From this account we learn many things about the First Vision. First, that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have a body of flesh and bones, like us; and that they are two separate beings. Also, Heavenly Father knows our names and knows us individually. Most importantly, that Heavenly Father still appears to his children and guides His children. After the appearance of the Father and the Son, other heavenly messengers appeared Joseph Smith, and with the priesthood authority given to him, he was directed to organize the Church of Jesus Christ on the earth. We are now in the dispensation of the fullness of times, or the last dispensation before the Second Coming. Show more Show less
