Hi I'm Jim

I was raised on a small farm in Idaho. I was not Mormon's but many around me were members. At 21 I was converted to the Church.

About Me

I am a retired Transportation Engineer, married, and have four children, 15 grandchildren. I like to travel and see new things. I enjoy being with my wife of 47 years and in turn we enjoy being with our family. I love sports and enjoyed playing basketball when I was younger, I love to read.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up I was taught to be honest and to have integrity. I was taught that I had a Father in Heaven who loved me but it was all pretty vague. While I grew up around Mormons, I kept my distance when it came to religion. Then I met the woman that would become my wife who was LDS. We dated for some time then broke up and went our separate ways. It was at this point that I realized that she was the one for me and that she had something that made her special which was her faith in the Lord and our Savior Jesus Christ. I began taking the missionary lessons and realized that the Church has more to offer to me, I joined the Church and have been active ever since serving the Lord in whatever way He has asked us to serve.

How I live my faith

Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with the youth in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, providing religious opportunities to prisoners in the state penitentiary, and most recently working in a storehouse that provided needed items and food for those that needed assistance. I have served on national committees for transportation issues as well as in my own community.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

It has always been one of my core beliefs that we should be prepared for any emergency, while it may be impossible to be ready for all types and kind of emergencies I feel that I have the skills and ability to handle many of life's challenges. Because of these skills and abilities I am more self-reliant and confident to provide for and protect my family. Over the years I have been able to use that talent to assist and help others from the basic items to the complex. Show more Show less
