Hi I'm Mariah

I will be serving my mission in Vancouver Canada (British Columbia). I am so excited to serve :D

About Me

I am attending college; I love the outdoors and am part of the Outdoor Activities Club at school. I love people and learning about them. I am interested in languages, especially spanish which I have taken three years of between high school and college.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church and similar to many I was baptized at the age of 8. And just like most teenagers in the church I had my time to question the things I had been taught my whole life. I wasn't sure if I had believed the same things everyone in my ward did. I found myself going through the motions of attending activities but seeking other opportunities that may not have aligned with the churches beliefs. I found myself one day sitting and thinking about how unhappy I was with the decisions I had been making. Although I wasn't doing anything catastrophic to society I did not have the trust of my parents nor did I have respect for myself. In that moment I decided to change my life, to be honest and to try to live all the gospel standards I had been taught and knew in the back of my mind to be true. The transformation was amazing, my life turned around. I become happy, my parents trusted me, I had more freedoms and life became easier. It didn't mean that I didn't have my trials over the years but my trials became easier to bear because I was able to rely on my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through all those experiences. The Holy Ghost has and still continues to testify many truths of the gospel; he was able to tell me the church was true. One day in church I experienced a wonderful moment because as we evaluated all the church taught I discovered something I had never before realized: how could a church that teaches about every good thing in this world not be true? Believing or not believing the other doctrines the guidelines it teaches helps us live happier, more successful lives. This experience helped my testimony grow immensely. Although I still have so much to learn I know the Lord can help me grow, make my weaknesses strong, and without a doubt in my mind do I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church on this earth. It brings me so much joy and I cannot wait to give that same joy I experience to others.

How I live my faith

I grew up as one of few mormons in my school and through high school and college I have had the opportunity to be an example to members and nonmembers. Francis of Assisi said "Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words." This is something I believe to be so true and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to set an example. I also "when necessary use words" teaching people about the things I believed growing up so they had a greater understanding why I did the things I did and chose not to participate in other popular activities with peers. I had the opportunity with others in my ward to plan activities for ourselves and members of the ward in order to enjoy company and create unity.
