Hi I'm Kelley

I'm a street taco fanatic, a scary movie lover, a die-hard Dodgers fan, a beach bum, and a Mormon.

About Me

I'm Kelley. I'm finishing up my undergrad in Psychology, and even though I've changed my major what feels like 15 times, I have finally found what I love to do. When I'm not in class, I love going outdoors and enjoying nature. I love hiking, which makes living in Utah great, but I also miss my southern California beaches when winter rolls in. Speaking of Southern California, I love my LA Dodgers, and even though my boys didn't win the World Series this year, they're taking 2018! I also love movies- pretty much any genre, but my current favorite is horror. I will, however, still scream like a little girl when they get scary. I fully support binge watching episodes of Stranger Things on Netflix rather than studying, play some seriously sweet air drums, and I will gladly rock out to AC/DC any day, anytime. I love to travel, and I'm trying to get to as many different places as I can while I still have the time. I served a mission in Hong Kong and I love everything about the culture and the people there- I'll definitely be heading back that direction soon! My family is honestly the most important thing in my life, and I would not be half the person I am today without their amazing insights and patience. Oh, and on top of all that, I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents joined this church at different times in their lives, but I was raised Mormon. At first, their desire to attend church meetings was enough for me. At some point though, and I'm not entirely sure when, it became necessary for me to make that decision for myself. I was known as one of the Mormons in High School, and I really did rely on that as a large part of my identity. As I left high school however, the world got a lot bigger and I was presented with substantially more options for how I wanted to live my life. In a sense I did some shopping. I tried to figure out if the "Mormon thing" was really for me, as I had many friends deciding otherwise. But when it came down to it, this church and the message it teaches were the only things I really wanted out of life. I kept coming back. And when I was ready, I made my choice. I love this gospel. I love absolutely everything about it. I love that it teaches about our Savior Jesus Christ and his infinite Atonement, and that through Him we can be healed of pain and torment. That through Him we can find everlasting peace. So I guess when it comes down to it, I'm a Mormon because I love the hope this life and this gospel bring. I love knowing that I have a Father in Heaven who loves me and has created a plan for me, and every single man, woman, and child to ever live on this earth, to return to Him one day. I love that through Jesus Christ, I can be cleansed from my sin and comforted in my time of need. I'm Kelley Kessen. I know I have a Savior that loves me, and that's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I think this is one of the big questions we all face, no matter what religion we choose to practice. How do you apply your faith to every day life? In my opinion, it's the small, simple things that allow us to both practice and strengthen our faith. I work hard to make sure that the simple things I do in life allow me to (1) help others feel loved and (2) help me to feel closer to my Savior Jesus Christ. As I focus on the little things, the rest of my life tends to follow :)
