Hi I'm Steven

I was born and raised in Oregon. I play competitive basketball. I will serve a mission in England. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am eighteen years old and am currently serving as a full time missionary for the church in the England Leeds Mission. I am the youngest in a family of six, with one brother and two sisters. I have enjoyed playing sports all my life, basketball being my favourite. When I return home from my mission I intend to play college basketball. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, drawing, listening to music, and wrestling with my dog. I am 6 foot 8 inches tall, and therefore tend to hit my head on just about everything!

Why I am a Mormon

Like many situations, I was a Mormon because my entire family was. In my earlier years, I would go to church and participate, more as a social event rather than a spiritual one. Many of my friends that I knew were Mormon, and they were my motivation to go to church. When I was 14 years old, I had my own personal "conversion." I took on the challenge of Moroni's promise at the end of the Book of Mormon, in Moroni 10:4-5 which says "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." At that moment in my life, I received my answer and I now know without a shadow of doubt that this church is true. There is nothing one could do to persuade me otherwise that this church isn't true. The people may not always be perfect, but the gospel is perfect. I am a Mormon because it is true, and it has brought me so much happiness!

How I live my faith

Through the doctrines and teachings found in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, we are intended to follow the example of Jesus Christ in all that we do. He is the ultimate example of how we should live our faith. In the Book of Mormon when Jesus Christ visits the Americas he says "Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect" (3 Nephi 12:48). This is what we should try to do. However, Heavenly Father doesn't expect perfection in this life, but that we continually try to improve ourselves each day and become more like our Saviour. We are to just give it our best to serve others and to worship God. I have tried to do that throughout my life. I am by no means perfect though. I have made mistakes just like all of us have. But Heavenly Father knew that we would fall short, which is why he sent his son to die for us and take upon Himself all our sins, shortcomings, and inadequacies. The way that I have lived these teachings is to study the scriptures, pray often, go to church, and stand up for my beliefs. Also to have fun while still living the gospel, because the gospel truly is exciting! I like the scripture in Romans 1:16 which says "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth..." Don't be ashamed of being a member of the church. The church is true and it is the best thing that we can do in this life, to achieve the most happiness in the life to come!
