Hi I'm Jared

I grew up in New York, I love to play brass instruments, I'm an Eagle Scout, and, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the oldest of 5 children, and I've just started serving my mission for the church! My childhood was spent in southern New York (not in the city though). Much of my time was spent either playing/arranging music, reading, doing activities in scouting (and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout), or hanging out with a small group of friends. Music is my passion, and after being taught a little piano and french horn, I've gone on to teach myself some organ, trumpet, trombone, and baritone. Once I get back from my mission, I plan to study french horn performance and music theory in colllege.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church to my two loving parents. My mom has been a member her whole life, and my dad converted in the early 1990's. Over the years, I have come to know, through prayer, that this church was for me. I don't have a specific experience of grandeur where I knew all at once that this church was right. I didn't get a visit from an angel, I didn't hear God's voice come down from the sky, and I haven't seen a pillar of fire. I have come to know the thruthfulness of this Gospel by studying the scriptures, studying the Book of Mormon, praying about it, and acting in faith to receive that testimony that I now have. I know, for sure, that Christ lived on the Earth. I know that he performed miracles, called apostles, and established His church upon the Earth. I know that, over time, it became necessary that His church be restored. That restoration happened through a humble man named Joseph Smith, and it is my undying testimony that he was called to be a prophet. I know that, if we follow His commandments, we can live with God in Heaven. I know all of this without any doubt, and that is why I'm here serving a mission; to let others know what I know, so that they can have the peace, happiness, and joy that comes from this glorious message.

How I live my faith

Right now, I "live my faith" by serving a mission in Southern California. 2 years seems to be a lot of time to donate to the Church, but I love it! Serving is so much fun, and really helps me to feel the Spirit. It makes me feel great that I have the opportunity to share my testimony with so many people on the street, and that I can help them come closer to their Father in Heaven. Not everyone on the street wants to hear our message, but I still love the time we spend talking to people, and introducing to them a lifestyle that brings so many people happiness and comfort in their lives. Before my mission, I was the pianist for the Primary, where all the little children meet for Sunday School. It was such a spiritual experience to hear the kids sing about their Savior, Jesus Christ, and that they were so excited to give thanks to him through song. Seeing the example of the children every week was such a blessing. As Christ said, we need to humble ourselves as little children. I absolutely love to read from the scriptures, whether it be the Bible, Book of Mormon, or other books, and I love applying the teachings to my life. I always enjoy finding examples of how I can improve my thoughts and actions, especially from reign of Christ on the Earth, both in the New Testament and in the 3rd book of Nephi (from the Book of Mormon). Reading from these sacred books is when I feel the presence of the Holy Ghost the strongest. I can see how I can improve my actions to become clean in God's eyes, and that is all I want; to be a good example of what it means to follow the commandments and be clean.
