Hi I'm Sam Montross

I am a student at BYU-Idaho, I grew up in a small town in Michigan, I love to bake, sing, play the clarinet, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town to an LDS family. My mom has been a member her whole life, and my dad was baptized when he was 18. He went on a mission a year later to Italy, and they got married a few short years later. We have a strong family in the gospel, however, growing up and leaning on my parents testimonies did not help me to know for myself if the church was true or not. Then one day we were listening to General Conference, and I heard Elder Jeffery R. Holland give his talk which is titled "Safety For The Soul". I knew after listening to that talk that the church was true. However, a few years later I left for college. I go to school in Idaho, which is halfway across the country from Michigan. I was nervous to leave home, but excited to find myself and be in an atmosphere full of people with the same beliefs. I struggled a lot my first year out. I started doubting a lot of things in my life, including the church and my testimony. After coming home from my first year of college, I talked to my mother about all the struggles I had and started going to church again. I prayed a lot, read the scriptures and found out that I always knew the church was true, I had just lost my way for a little while. I think we all do that sometimes, we try to make right decisions and then one bad thing will slip in and we will slowly lose ourselves if we are not careful. We just need to know what we are looking for to find our way back.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I know this is where Heavenly Father wants me. The Book of Mormon answers the questions of the soul, and I have seen how it has blessed my life. Heavenly Father loves us all, and He wants us to come back to live with Him. I know by living the standards of this gospel, I will be able to do so as I strive to keep progressing towards him each day.

How I live my faith

I have lived the standards of the church my whole life. Sometimes not understanding fully why there are these guidelines that are put out, but I knew that they were important, and I knew that I needed to follow them to draw closer to my Savior. I live in a small community in Michigan so I attend a branch (or small congregation). However, other than summer time I attend a Young Single Adult ward out at school in Rexburg, Idaho. I am now serving my mission in the England London South mission where I am teaching the lovely people of England about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
