Hi I'm Carolyn Moore

I grew up in Idaho. I attended Ricks and B.Y.U. and have a masters in education. I taught in the public schools for 36 years.

About Me

I love camping with family in the national forests of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah. My dad was a science teacher who worked for the forest service during the summer. He taught us to observe nature and how to spot wildlife. I dabble in floral arranging and oil painting. My aunt taught me my first lessons in oil painting. She helped me develop my sensitivity to color by asking questions like, "What color of blue would you use to paint the sky the color you see today?" I only wish I had listened to my dad when he pushed for me to take art from Mr. Birch in 9th grade. Who knew I'd find myself teaching six week "exploratory" classes at the middle school in art and in creativity? I taught in both Utah and Idaho. Twenty-nine of my 36 years of teaching were in sixth grade. The majority of my teaching has been in team teaching situations. My first year team teaching I said I learned more in one year of team teaching than I did in the previous three and a half years teaching in a self contained classroom. My primary areas that I did the majority of instruction were reading, language arts, and world history. I loved watching students learn and grow in confidence in their ability understand and retain information, and even more to guide them through solving life's problems. I'm thankful for my gospel background that taught me every child is of infinite worth and capable of learning and contributing to the world around them.

Why I am a Mormon

As I look at the planet we live on I am amazed at how extremely organized it is. When I contemplate what we know about the vastness of the universe and the uniqueness of the placement of our planet in its solar system that made life on this planet possible, I cannot believe it came about by chance. The sheer variety of the different living organisms that coexist here; along with the complexities of the different organs of just one mammal on this planet testifies to me of a higher power. It does not make sense to me that it all came about by chance. It would take great power and tremendous intelligence. Science has helped understand a little bit of the astronomy, geology, botany, zoology, and anatomy involved. But science can't begin to explain the why? "Why was this earth created?" "Why would any entity go to so much effort, and put so much detail and beauty into anything?" To me it all testifies of God and His great love for us.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to teach in the church. The first was as a junior in high school. My mother taught 11 year old girls, but sometimes her health problems made her unable to be there every week. I became her built in substitute. The manual used by the church made it easy because it had a good mix of clear instructions and activities. In addition there were supportive adults who checked in on me regularly to make sure everything was going well. Since then I have had the opportunity to teach the introduction to church doctrines classes and teacher development courses. In addition I had the opportunity to serve a mission to California. I remember after my mission asking Heavenly Father if there was any way I could teach school 9 months of the year and be a missionary 3 months. Shortly after this I rain into a girl I'd known at B.Y.U. I commented on how much happier she seemed and she told me that she was serving on Temple Square as a missionary. This was the answer I was seeking! She helped me to apply to serve as well. The next 6 years I served a 5 hour shift every week. I loved meeting people from all over the world and from all the major religions. I love teaching under the direction of the Spirit of God and bearing testimony of our Heavenly Fathers plan for our happiness and of the restoration of Christ's church to the earth. Another way that the Church blesses my life is through frequent service in the temple. I've found that if I was consistent with praying to my Heavenly Father both morning and evening and read and studied scriptures daily that there wasn't any trial that Heavenly Father couldn't get me through. Having an eternal perspective and listening to the council of the current prophet and apostles helps me stay hopeful in this scary time in history. I have also found that as served Heavenly Father
