Hi I'm Sydney

I was born in Highland, Utah. I love to perform music. I'm serving a mission in the Philippines. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm the oldest of four children. I'm a college student studying English so that I can make it in to law school. I play the piano, drums, and the banjo. I love all types of music whether I'm listening to it or performing it. I played in a drum line and a jazz band all through high school. I also joined the debate team. I love public speaking and standing up and letting people know what I'm passionate about. I've also played a bit of soccer (though I've been told I'm supposed to call it football). I speak English and Spanish, and soon I'll be fluent in Cebuano.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the gospel, but I always had a borderline faith. I knew it was true, but I didn't know why. I went through the motions and prayed and read my scriptures, but there was know reason to it for me. Then in my 9th grade seminary class, my teacher asked us if we would pray that night for one thing--to ask Heavenly Father if He loved us. He promised we would feel His overwhelming love. So I took the challenge. But I didn't feel anything. I prayed every night this same prayer, and for months I didn't feel what my teacher had promised I would. I was frustrated. I went to my teacher for help. He showed me conference talks and scriptures and encouraged me to keep trying. But I didn't feel anything. Then, one day, close to the end of the year, I knelt down to say the same prayer, no longer expecting an answer. I heard something like a voice whisper to me, "You've known all along that I love you." It was a shocking revelation. I realized then that the motions I'd been going through over and over again had meaning, that everything I'd done in the church I'd been taking for granted. I had a loving Father in Heaven who sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save me if I would trust in Him and love everyone around me as He loved me. My testimony has only continued to grow. I know the church is true. I love this Gospel. And I say these things in the names of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

I was a ward prayer coordinator in my singles ward back at school. I tried to leave my ward with a positive message each week to help them get about their daily lives. It wasn't a big calling, but it was important. I was in charge of making people feel welcome outside of weekly church meetings. I had to let every individual know they were loved and important. That's why every week, we organized talents so that we could know a little bit more about each other. It wasn't an easy job, but showing the love of Christ outside of a church building is just as important as loving people within.
