Hi I'm Avery

I am from Upland, California. I love people, books, board games, and going on adventures. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the fourth child of six, and my family is a boat load of fun. The relationships that I create with those around me are very important to me. I love to laugh and make puns. I love to learn new things and to read good books. I love to sing poorly and dance crazily. Music is powerful and awesome. As a self-proclaimed nerd, I know everything there is to know about things like Harry Potter and Settlers of Catan. Board games are my favorite. No shame. Although not innately talented, I enjoy playing many different sports ("It's for fun." -Nacho) and I love outdoor adventures. I just finished my first year of college up at Brigham Young University-Idaho and I have been called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I will be serving in the Mexico Oaxaca Mission for the next two years of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I prayed to know whether or not the Book of Mormon was true and God answered my prayer. The Book of Mormon is true. That knowledge has changed my life. Being Mormon encourages me to be my best self. Living the teachings contained in the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes me more happy than anything else could. Jesus Christ and His atonement bring peace into my life. I believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's true church on the earth. Heavenly Father loves me and all of His children. God is good and He has provided a way for all of us to return to live with Him someday. The atonement of Jesus Christ is real and powerful.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by constantly striving to develop a better relationship with my Father in Heaven. Some key things that I do to live my faith and try to get closer to God are daily scripture study and daily prayer. When I read from the Bible, Book of Mormon, and other sacred scripture, I am able to feel the Spirit of God in greater abundance. I can feel an enormous difference in my life when I am consistent in these two areas, and sincere prayer and scripture study helps me to discern a little bit better God’s will for me. These two habits are very important to me and they have shaped me into the person that I am today. I believe that to truly follow Christ it is important to learn from His life and teachings in the scriptures that God has given us. When I read the scriptures I feel peace and I gain more direction in my life. Striving to serve others is also a way that I live my faith. I am not perfect at it, but service is one thing that I enjoy to do because it brings me closer to those around me and to God.
