Hi I'm Dennis

I am a Mormon. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Detroit and we went to church about 20 miles away from our home.

About Me

My wife and I have been married for over 50 years. We have 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. I graduated from BYU and Stanford. We have lived in California, Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia and recently moved to Utah. I was employed in corporate finance during my working career, and my final positions were that of CFO. I retired about 20 years ago and we moved across country to help our siblings with our aging parents. The reason for our move to Utah was to be closer to some of our children and most of our grandchildren. As a family, we enjoyed the outdoors and have done a lot of camping, hiking and some boating. Our children were all active in youth sports. We love our family and enjoy getting together as often as practical. For those living nearby our getting together is weekly or monthly. For the family living across the country it is once or twice a year, but frequently by phone, text or email.

Why I am a Mormon

Let me tell you about my conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I was baptized at age 12 and was converted to attending church regularly. However, when I started college and was on my own I was not so diligent in my faith. After about 3 years this lukewarm involvement with church I discovered that I wasn't happy with my life and wanted to have joy. My activities without the Lord in my life brought sadness to me. It was during this time of reflection on what I should do that an acquaintance of mine came to my apartment and invited me to church. This fellowship brought me back to church and allowed me to further cement my conversion to the Lord Jesus Christ and follow him. This fellowship saved my spiritual life. I was looking for a way back and the Lord provided it.

How I live my faith

My wife and I have served our community mostly through church callings. I have served as a teacher, advisor, councilor. president of organizations within the church and as Bishop of our local congregation (ward). My wife and I served a church mission 6 years ago and are preparing to go on another mission. On this next mission we will be staying in our home and serving the 10 wards in our immediate area. Except for a brief period early in my college career, I have been active in the church since I was baptized when I was 12 years old. We attended a small community church when I was young a few times a year. When I was 10, we discovered that dad was a mormon and we started attending more regularly but in Detroit and then Pontiac; both LDS chapels were about 20 miles from our home. When I was 12 I wanted to participate in church meeting like the other boys of my age but I needed to be baptized and become a member. It was not a great reason to be baptized but it worked for me.
