Hi I'm Amanda Young

I'm from California, I'm Italian, I'm vegan, I'm a dancer, I'm a saxophonist, I'm obsessed with Disneyland, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a typical cat loving girl from California. Needless to say, I love quesadillas. After graduating high school in 2013, I headed to BYU in Provo, Utah to become a Human Development Major // Dance Minor. Dance has been in my life since I was four years old, having found my favorite style to be contemporary ballet. And, like most dancers, I love yoga. Free yoga classes are life! When I'm not in school, I spend the summers back in California working as a paraprofessional in an autistic special education classroom. I have been a vegan since June 2010 because I believe that all of God's wonderful creatures should be treated with respect. I love bird watching and have been on quite a few bird watching adventures throughout Northern California. My all-time favorite birds are the snowy egret, the red-winged black bird, and the swallow. But even though I spend a lot of time in yoga pants or a t-shirt and jeans, I love fashion. I have a big stack of fashion magazines at home that I love to flip through on rainy days. I'm pretty unpredictable, and always down for any adventure. When I'm around, you won't be bored!

Why I am a Mormon

As a child of divorce, I knew from a young age it was something I would never put my kids through. I knew I would either find a marriage that would last for certain, or I just wouldn't get married. The first time I walked into a Mormon church building, there was such a great feeling of peace and love, the families were a perfect example of what I wanted in my life. This Church is so focused on families, how important they are, and that they can be together forever. No other church I had been to focused on the family being able to staying together for all time, or even taught that this was possible. As I learned more, got to know the people at Church, read the Book of Mormon, and prayed about it all, I knew it was the true Church. Because of my parents, I had to wait until my 18th birthday to be baptized, so the Saturday after my birthday, I was. My friends and family were there to support me like they continue to today.

How I live my faith

After finishing my second year of college, I have decided to go on a mission and will be serving an eighteen month mission in Chicago, Illinois. On my mission, I will be away from friends and family to be helping the needy and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. When I return, I will finish my last two years at college and continue to live as Christ did.

What is the Law of Chastity?

Amanda Young
As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we believe that sexual relations are to be between a man and woman within the bonds of marriage. This law can be seen in the world as something unneeded or oppressive, but I know that the law of chastity is freeing. I know that God gives us commandments, or rules, for a reason. And I know that when we follow this commandment, we are blessed with a tremendous amount self-worth. Show more Show less
