Hi I'm Shawndi

I grew up in Washington and Utah. I'm working towards my degree in Exotic Animal Training and Management. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am an off again/on again college student. I have 2 sisters and 3 brothers. I love the outdoors! I have worked with different scouting organizations for years specifically at summer camps. I love animals which is part of the reason I'm going into Exotic Animal Training and Management. It involves both my love of the outdoors as well as animals! I also help extensively with our city's youth theater. I play the french horn, mellophone, and trumpet. I love to sing, but mostly just in my kitchen! I think music and theater are great experiences for children and adults alike. They are wonderful things to be a part of! My other hobbies include Horse Back Riding, Kayaking, Sailing, Hiking, Pottery, Crocheting, Swimming, Boating, Snowboarding, etc. Besides the outdoor things I also enjoy a good binge on Netflix or devoting a couple hours to a good book!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon, but that is not why I am a member. When I graduated High School I strayed away for a bit. I had to figure out for myself if this was the right thing for me, if my testimony was mine or my parents. After struggling and searching I came to my own knowledge. I can feel the holy spirit testify to me that the church is true. The feelings of peace I get when I pray or read the scriptures can only add to my testimony. On the other side of things I can feel the terrible absence of the spirit when I act against what I know to be right. I know that this is the only true church on the earth today and that our Prophet receives modern revelation to guide us in these difficult times. I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon is true. It is the word of God. I have a testimony that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he restored the truth to the earth in these latter days. I know that Jesus Christ is my savior and that through him and the atonement I can be redeemed.

How I live my faith

I love being a part of the singles ward where I live. It is full of vibrant young adults who constantly lift me up and make me feel like a part of something. Their faith is a wonderful example to me. I have a calling as a Visiting Teaching Supervisor which just means I help make sure every sister in our ward is being looked after. Our ward has a motto: No one sits alone, no one slips away. I am also preparing to serve as a full time missionary and can't wait to be out spreading the Gospel!

What is faith?

To me Faith is Hope. I think it is best said in Alma 32:21 "And now as I said concerning faith - faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." Faith doesn't mean having a perfect understanding or knowledge, it is simply Hope in what is not seen but is true. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

The family is an essential unit to Gods plan for us. If you desire to understand more I would strongly suggest reading "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" which is a wonderful document the leadership of the church has published about the churches stance on family. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon temples? What goes on in Mormon temples?

Someone once told me there is a difference between secret and sacred. The Temple is the Lord's house and to enter it you must be clean. It takes preparation. Everyone is welcome to enter the Temple but only after that preparation. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

No one is required to serve a mission, but it is asked of us to sacrifice that time in order to build up Gods kingdom here on earth. There is a verse in Doctrine & Covenants 4:3 "Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work". Those who choose to serve missions do so because they have that desire to serve God. Show more Show less
