Hi I'm Alex

I grew up in Nikiski, Alaska and I'm going on a Mormon mission to Minneapolis Minnesota.

About Me

I am a general home town kid. I grew up in a somewhat small community. Pop works remotely and Mom stays home with the kids type of family. We're not well off but we get by. I like reading books to pass the time and drawing. I love to eat and watch super hero movies. I consider myself a super nerd and ain't very social but if you start talking about comics or movies I'll probably talk your ear off. I'm big on emergency preparedness and have earned my eagle scout award. I like to build things and work hard.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it is true. I know that because of the healing power of Jesus Christ's atonement I can be redeemed of my sins and be healed. I grew up in the church. Both my parents are converts and for the longest time I sorta followed along in their shadow, walking the path on borrowed light. When I realized that I didn't have my own testimony I was shaken to the bone. All my life I had been following in the light of my parents and to me that wasn't okay. I began searching for answers to all my questions. Is this true? Do I believe this? Am I able to say with confidence 'I know this is true'? All the while I was dealing with the guilt of my own sins, not being sure if I can be forgiven. Not that I didn't believe that Christ could redeem me but because I wasn't sure I had fully repented. With the help of my family and the healing power of the Atonement I was able to climb out of the hole I had dug for myself. Now I can say with confidence 'I know the church is true'. I can feel the peace that the Atonement can bring. I have the privilege of being a missionary where before my conversion I couldn't be sure. It is still hard. I still have to fight every day. But this time I know I can win.

How I live my faith

I attend my ward meetings and help out in my elder's quorum when have the time. I am caught in a bit of a rift with my youth groups. I'm too old to hang out with my friends in young men's and scouts but I'm too young to hang out with the young single adults group. I'm also leaving on a mission soon so I haven't been called to be anything. I am hoping to prepare for my mission and be the best missionary I can be.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Alex
No one person wrote The Book of Mormon. Like the Bible it is a compilation of records and teachings. It is only called "The Book of Mormon" because a man named Mormon who lived in the ancient Americas compiled the records. Joseph Smith Junior didn't write it. He was merely the heavenly inspired translator of the records. Show more Show less
