Hi I'm Malia Mikaela Lapota

I grew up in Tongatapu. I went to Liahona High School.I'm serving a full time mission now in Utah Salt Lake City West Mission.

About Me

I love to play sports (volleyball). I grew up with 6 brothers. They also love to play sports. I'm the only girl in my family. My mum is from 10 kids and my dad is from 15 kids. I didn't realize that I have a huge family, but anyways I love it. I joined the church in 2009 and I have come to have a strong testimony of the gospel. After 3 years I had a feeling that Heavenly Father wanted me to serve a full time mission. I went to the missionary preparation class in January 2013, and finally I got my call January 2014.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints in 2009 through friends. Every time I talked to my friend she changed the subject to the gospel. She told me she was being blessed by the gospel. Her life changed a lot, and she was a happy person. I wondered why she was happy, and I wanted to have the happiness she had, but I didnt realize it came from the gospel. At the time I was struggling because my dad passed away. She told me if I wanted to learn more of the gospel she could ask the missionaries to teach me. The first time I met the missionaries I had a ton of questions about my dad and how I could see him again. They taught me the plan of salvation. At that time I felt deep in my heart that I knew Heavenly Father has a plan for me and my family so I can see my dad again. After they taught me that, the missionaries invited me to be baptized. I felt the Spirit testify to me that this is the true gospel and I agreed to be baptized. In 2014, I was able to go to the temple with my mum. It has been a good experience in my life. I am so surprised that my mum was willing to follow my example, and I hope that one day we can be sealed together as a family for eternity. I know that is Heavenly Father's plan. Being converted to the gospel changed my life a lot.

How I live my faith

At the beginning of my mission I was so scared to talk to people, but I know the Lord helped me in my weaknesses. Now I better understand my purpose to help people come closer to Heavenly Father and to build their relationship with Him. I love the people, and their testimonies of the Savior have helped mine to grow. I have been blessed on my mission and my family has been blessed also. I am trying to be a good example to the rest of my family. I have learned on my mission that if I apply the Atonement of Jesus Christ in my life I will be able to help so many people change and become converted. The best thing about my mission is that I have the Spirit with me every time I testify of the Atonement.
