Hi I'm Josh

I'm a husband. I'm a soon to be father! I love reading, writing, and playing guitar. And, I'm a mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated from college with a dual degree in Economics and Philosophy! So, that's exciting. I love reading the news, and old literature (such as Moby Dick, The Jungle, On The Road, etc.). Those books are works of art; I love them. I enjoy writing and playing guitar. My wife and I enjoy traveling to wherever we can. I doesn't even matter. If it sounds like an adventure then you'll find us there!

Why I am a Mormon

I recently joined the church (Dec. 2012), so up and till now it's been two and a half years. I will tell you that I have learned so much in those two and a half years! Becoming a mormon has changed my life in ways I couldn't have even imagined (all for the better). Before I joined the church I had many questions about the world around me, mostly philosophical - including the usual Why are we here?, What is the purpose of this life?, Did humans create a god and an afterlife to help calm our nerves and answer the unanswerable? So, I naively turned to philosophy books for answers. However, I still felt as if there was something missing - that I hadn't quite found any real, solid answers. It wasn't until I read The Book of Mormon and met with the missionaries that I felt filled, comfortable, and at home. I cannot begin to describe to you the feeling of peace I felt when I read the Bible and Book of Mormon. To this day I still feel that wonderful peace. Since meeting with the missionaries, I have gained a testimony of the validity of The Book of Mormon, of Joseph Smith as a prophet, and of Jesus Christ as the Savior and Redeemer of the world. That testimony is the reason why I continue to follow His gospel every single day.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in three ways - by praying daily, reading my scriptures daily, and serving others. I like to imagine Heavenly Father in my head as I pray. This helps me to feel as if I'm actually talking with him, rather than just saying stuff in my head. I know it's extremely important to create a strong relationship with your father in heaven, because he wants to help you succeed in this life. He can't help you if you don't ask for help; He can't help you if you don't tell him what you're thinking and what you're feeling. Now, of course he's God and knows all things, so obviously He knows what you're thinking and feeling. But, if you talk with Him in prayer everyday, your faith in Him will grow so very strong! You and your father in heaven will have a real relationship - one that you can cherish for all eternity. Also, there are many wonderful things revealed in the scriptures. If you're ready to learn, open to the whisperings of the spirit, and at least have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will find those precious truths waiting in the scriptures. They will change your life - as they did mine. I use the scriptures as a life guide; I know I will not be let down. Finally service brings much joy and helps grow faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. As the scriptures say: "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." How can you not feel great and rejoice when you help someone out and see a smile on their face! I think even picking up trash as you walk around outside is an act of service. We were given this beautiful Earth, so the least we can do is try and keep it clean. Anyways, these three things are how I live my faith.
