Hi I'm Yvonne Roberts

I grew up in the hot desert of Arizona. I taught elementary school - I love being a Mormon!

About Me

Me and my husband have 8 children together (a blended family consisting of his, mine and ours, but I raised them all!) I started college in mid life to earn a Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education and taught for 10 years. When I was younger, I loved to water ski but now I like to read, sew and spend time with all my grandchildren. I think the secret to living long and healthy is to always keep moving, work hard and take time doing something you love.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have learned more gospel truths being a member of this church than any other. I had questions that went unanswered before, like where was I before I lived on this earth? This bible tells me that I will be known in Heaven as I am on this earth - how does God know me? What am I supposed to do in this world besides live, then die? I now know there is more to it. I was raised a Baptist which also practiced baptism by emersion and I was taught all about Jesus Christ, the Atonement and the resurrection. Mormons believe in the same concepts, so that was nothing new to me. But, I didn't now about a living prophet and wasn't sure I was ready for that. Growing up, I over heard some negative comments about Joseph Smith. I felt such an overwhelmingly good emmotion when I read about his vision on the Hill Cumorah - then I fervently prayed about the truth of it. I began to sob with joy and had never had such an experience before. I knew Joseph's vision must be true. As soon as I opened the Book of Mormon to start reading where I left off the previous night, the next chapter (Alma 5:45-46) said:... "Do ye not suppose that I know of these things myself? Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that these things whereof I have spoken are true. And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety? (46) Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me." As I have learned to lean on the Lord through my many trials in life, I have been strengthened by God and my faith in Him has grown each time. I have seen his hand in my life, especially since I have learned about the restored gospel brought to Earth by Joseph Smith. I testify all that I have been taught is true!

How I live my faith

I love to keep busy in my ward (church): I attend church most Sundays. I have taught Sunday School to children ages 1 1/2 to 9 and have organized activities for them. I also loved to teach the teenage girls to reach their full potential by helping them live the Gospel of Jesus Christ - attending Girls Camp with them every summer was especially fun! Now, I mostly visit the elderly women in our ward to see if they have any needs.
