Hi I'm Derek

I'm from a great place called Utah. I like cats and code. I love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name's Derek. One of my big regrets in life is quitting learning piano after sixth grade. I grew up in Utah near Salt Lake City. After serving a mission in Los Angeles, California I realized that Utah truly is a unique place. I loved my mission. I was called to learn Mandarin Chinese, which is still a constant and rewarding struggle. Even though Mandarin was my assigned language, I had the opportunity to work with people of all cultures from all walks of life. I met people ranging from those recovering from drug addictions to others who come from wealthy families. I learned a lot about life. I love life.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that life is mainly about perspective. I'm a member of this church because I believe that the perspective of life that is taught by this church is true. I believe that our lives have more of a purpose than to exist for a short 80-90 or so years. I believe the truths taught about the eternal family are true, and they will strengthen our family bonds in the here and now. The Gospel is a framework that we can base our life around with confidence that it will remain standing no matter what trial or hardship comes our way.

How I live my faith

I love to live my faith by loving those who I meet. I always love talking to people and getting to know them. Everybody has a unique background and story. Everyone's view of life is a little different. I am a firm believer that ever person you talk to has something unique that you can learn from them.
