Hi I'm Blaine R Russell, DVM

I grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho as a member of the Methodist Church. Later I was baptized in 1966 at the University of Utah.

About Me

Growing up in Shelley, ID was great. This small community was predominant LDS. I was a member of the local Methodist church but had many friends who were members of the LDS church. It was not until years later I was introduced to the LDS faith as a student at the University of Utah. After I graduated from Utah State University (Logan, Utah) I eventually went back to college at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. While in college I attended institute classes along with college classes. I graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine at WSU in 1974. Our family moved to Yuba City, California where I worked at a veterinarian for several years. While living in Yuba City, CA I was called to be on the High Council of the Gridley Stake of California for 4 years. We moved to Idaho Falls, ID in 1978 and opened a veterinary practice. After two years of cold weather and working outside with large animals, I was excited to move back to California and teach at Yuba Community College in Marysville, California. Shortly after we were settled in the work place I was called to be the Bishop of the Marysville First Ward. We had five children and grew to love the people of California. Unfortunately, my wife of thirty four years developed cancer and died on 19 September 2000. In order to serve a mission I needed to be married and was fortunate to receive answer to my prayers. We served in Africa for 2 years.

Why I am a Mormon

Porque! I know it is the gospel of Jesus Christ restored in these last days!

How I live my faith

My life has been filled with service as I have accepted every calling in the church. Right after being baptized in December of 1966 I was called to be a home teacher and have been home teaching for nearly 50 years. Many times I have assisted friends and neighbors. In 1986 Marysville, CA has a major flood and 1/2 our ward members were underwater. It was weeks of work helping them getting back on their feet. Then again in 1993 another flood took away many of our neighbors and member homes. Again the "Flood Busters" (our group formed from my youth group) worked for weeks helping folks clean up. After my wife passed away there was such a disruption in plans to serve a mission as a couple following retirement from Yuba College. I was fortunate to remarry a wonderful companion. We served a mission to Mozambique Africa. This was an adventure of a life time. We are now serving in Nauvoo, Illinois as temple missionaries.
