Hi I'm Joey

I'm a runner, a book addict, and my favorite part- a Mormon.

About Me

As I said, I love running. Running up a mountain, seeing that orange sun as it rises over the evergreen trees, feeling the mist roll on your face; this is the start of a perfect day for me. When I'm not running, I can be found in a quiet corner reading book; or maybe chasing one of my six siblings around! I love my entire family, and couldn't live without them. I plan on starting my own family and studying abroad in the life of a full time college student. What I'll study and where has yet to be determined… but I know that I'll figure it on the way. I love learning and trying new things. Sometimes I have to stop myself and smell the lilies. (I've never liked roses to much) Just trying to enjoy the journey. I also have two older twin sisters serving missions- one in Concepción, Chile and the other in Rosario, Argentina. I somehow feel closer to them as I serve, even though we are in different countries. I'm am currently serving a mission in Trinidad, Port of Spain for 2 years.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up Mormon, my parents always told me that this church of true; that it was Jesus Christ's Church. Me, being a logical rebel, didn't see it that way. However, I didn't want to upset all my friends, so I still went to church and smiled. Most of the real battles of open rebellion happened at home. Looking back, my philosophy of the LDS Church was "I believe this Church is true" which turned into "My parents say this church is true" and then during my rebellion, "I don't believe my parents and I'm finding out for myself." I was researching and searching, and my mom told me something that struck me. She said something along the lines of "If you want to find out if this Church is true, The Book of Mormon is the book you need to be reading. If it's true, then Joseph Smith is a prophet and this is Jesus Christ's Church." So I did. I read the entire thing for the first time in my life. Once I was done, I got down on my knees and I prayed. The I answer I received was "You've always known it's true." I realized I did and always had. Today, I know The Book of Mormon to be the word of God and that Joseph Smith was a prophet called of God. I know that families can be together forever and that God answers our prayers. He knows each of us personally; and I know through Christ, you and I can return to our Father in Heaven. If you don't believe my words, believe my works. I'll slightly paraphrase what my Mom said- If you want to know if this is Jesus Christ's Church, The Book of Mormon is the book. I challenge you to read it and find out for yourself.

How I live my faith

Most of the time, I'm on the planning committee for activities; the behind the scenes! I've also enjoyed working with the youth, as I still consider myself one of them. Really, how I live my faith is how I make decisions. I work really hard on making sure my actions show my beliefs and what I know to be true; because if my actions aren't showing that, do I really know this to be true? Jesus Christ was the perfect example of this; If you don't believe my words, believe my actions. One of my favorite things to do is something called home teaching. It's where I have a chance to go visit with other families in the Church area and see how they're doing. I can and want to be someone they can call on in time of need and it gives me a sense of great purpose. I love getting to know them, as I can feel Christ's love through them. And I hope they can feel Christ's love through me as well.
