Hi I'm Janis

I'm a Washintonian, love children and the Deaf community, an aspiring Running Start student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm from Washington State. One of my favorite pass times is hanging out with Deaf people. One of the best things that have ever happened to me was my conversion to the LDS church in 2012. I desperately want to go to Gaulledet University. I grew up in a nondinominational Christian church in Portland. I can't wait to go on a mission. I'm a swimmer, I swim backstroke. I love to sit in nature alone and just absorb the beauty.

Why I am a Mormon

My conversion story is too complicated to understand over reading, but I will tell you that I did feel the spirit. I didn't know it was the spirit then, but I had this crazy strong feeling that this was something real, this church wasn't cliche, made up, or out to get me, it felt true. It took me a long time in the church to feel the spirit strongly for long periods of time. It wasn't till I moved to a different ward that I began to realize that I wasn't who I wanted to be. I didn't know my savior, and as I soon learned, I didn't know my Heavenly Father very well either. I wanted to be better, I wanted to feel happier. I've grown so much closer to my Savior and Heavenly Father through the trials and experiences I've had. I'm a Mormon because in this church is the closest I've ever felt to my Heavenly Father and Savior. I have grown more and learned more than I ever had in any other church or belief. God is real, no I have not seen Him, but I don't need to. I have felt him and experienced his help in my life. The temple is where I feel closest to Him. My desire to be worthy to enter the temple has driven me to want to reach higher to be better than I know I can be. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 I have truly felt him strengthen me. I could not have got as far as I have without him.

How I live my faith

Throughout my days and weeks, I search for ways to serve people, help them. That brings me the most happiness and growth when I'm helping others. Most of all, I just remember that no matter what I do there is someone who loves me and is willing to help me, Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ. Remembering helps me to keep a good attitude and keep helping others. Often times I pray for the spirit and Christ-like love to fill me. All my prayers are answered some way or another. I just have to learn how to recognize it. I try to teach everyone I meet a little about what I believe by living what I believe. I strive, especially since I'm in high school, not to gossip or talk bad about others because I know that they are also very important to Heavenly Father. They are all my brothers and sisters.
