Hi I'm Ethan Denkers

I grew up in California. I am seventeen years old and am a Mormon. I am preparing to serve in the Canada Winnipeg mission.

About Me

I was blessed to be born under the covenant as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My parents grew up Mormon and married in the Los Angeles temple. I grew up attending church each week where I developed a love for my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am excited to embark on a two-year mission serving the people in Winnipeg, Canada in July 2015. Upon completion of my mission, I will be attending college at BYU Idaho.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been Mormon my entire life. I was always taught it's okay to ask questions about church doctrine. When I was 15 years old, I had an abundance of questions concerning the church. The questions I had made me doubt our faith because I wasn't able to find all the answers I thought I needed. It came to a point where I actually wanted to stop attending church. I was told by my parents and church leaders that it is okay to have questions but not okay to give up searching for answers. I tried finding answers to my questions but felt like a hamster spinning on its wheel going absolutely no where. I wasn't getting any answers and felt like constantly banging my head against the wall. My mom thought it would be a good idea to attend another denomination since one of my concerns was what made our faith different then others . One Sunday morning, we attended another church. I felt uncomfortable the entire time. I didn't understand why everything was scripted especially their prayers. After we left, I realized what was missing. It was the Spirit, it wasn't there. The Spirit bears testimony to us through inspirational talks given, prayers borne from the heart and music sung with feeling and conviction. My testimony grew and continues to grow daily as I study the scriptures and say my prayers. The Spirit testifies the truthfulness of this gospel to me daily. I have a strong testimony that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true and restored gospel of our Savior, Jesus Christ. This is His church, set in the same manner when He walked the earth over 2,000 years ago. The Book of Mormon is a true testament of our Savior, Jesus Christ and I encourage all to read and study it. It will bless your life in ways you cannot imagine. I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I serve faithfully in my community by participating in events where cleaning parks, neighborhoods and restoration projects are completed. I've held callings at church where I've been able to work closely with young men. My focus was helping them grow spiritually by preparing lessons, bearing my testimony and helping them learn how to search the scriptures. I love working with the youth and strive to be more Christlike everyday. I have been invited to places where I knew alcohol and drugs would be present but respectfully declined expressing my beliefs about the importance of keeping my body clean and living the Word of Wisdom. I enjoy sharing my beliefs and feelings about being Mormon with my friends and teachers who are not of my faith. I love this gospel and look forward to following in my Savior's footsteps proclaiming the truth of His restored gospel.
