Hi I'm Alyssa

I've lived in 4 U.S. States in 20 years. I love travel and photography and music and my dog! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently attending Brigham Young University working toward an undergraduate degree in Statistics, minoring in Psychology and Ballroom Dance. I've always loved meeting new people and learning about them. I love music! I practice vocal, cello, and piano music. As far as athletics? I'm very flat-footed so anything with running is a struggle. However, I do row boats and take the occasional jog! Dancing, by far, tops my list of favorite hobbies. I don't come from a perfect family. My parents divorced in my teen years and although I was baptized at 8 years old, I didn't consider myself an active part of the LDS faith until nearly 11 years later. Recently, I returned from serving a full-time mission as a Sister Missionary in Southern California. Do you know where Redlands is? I served there until December 2016. I love this faith, love this gospel. It does so much for me every day to bring me peace and direction and I'd love to help others to feel what I feel!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because this gospel makes sense to me. I am grateful for a modern day prophet and it makes sense that the Lord would continue to speak to each us us individually and as a people. I am mormon because when I read the Book of Mormon, I slowly become a better person. I feel calmer, more peaceful, more able to handle the hard things in life. Christ is the Prince of Peace and He promises to come to our aid when we need Him. He has done so for me, as I read the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon, as well as pray and look to serve others.

How I live my faith

My faith is centered on following the example of Jesus Christ. I strive each day to study the scriptures and to better understand their doctrines. I have a desire to be good and to follow the commandments of God. I know firsthand that obedience to His commandments brings blessings. Each day begins and ends with prayer. My favorite way to live my faith is to look for the good in others and in life and point it out. I love listening and striving to help people who are struggling. I love helping others feel loved.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Alyssa
Basically, our church is founded on revelation. Revelation is receiving direct instruction from God to us. Through the Bible, we learn that God can speak to us as individuals. God speaking to individuals is considered "personal revelation". God has also had times when he felt it needful to speak to all of His people. When He needs to do that, He speaks through a prophet. In modern day, it has been revealed to us through a prophet of God that He genuinely cares for our bodies and health. He is our loving Heavenly Father, so it just make sense! He wants not just a few of us to be healthy, but all of us to be healthy which is why God revealed a law of health (known as the Word of Wisdom) through a prophet. As part of this law, it was revealed that we should stay away from substances like Tobacco, Alcohol, Coffee and tea, as well as any illegal drugs. But the Word of Wisdom doesn't spell out just what we CAN'T do. In fact, as part of this code of health, we are encouraged to eat healthy foods as well as to exercise regularly and get enough sleep. The blessings of the Word of Wisdom include the best health that you can have - not perfect health, granted, but to be the healthiest you can be. Each of us are invited to seek personal revelation from God to learn if this is really a law from Him through a prophet. Show more Show less
