Hi I'm Athena

I'm from the Philippines. Pure Ilocana. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a born Mormon. Called to Serve in the Philippines Cagayan de Oro Mission. I love kids, a lot.

Why I am a Mormon

I am the second generation member in our family. I owe my membership to my faithful parents. They both have served as an example for me to be able to have a testimony of my own. Being a member of this church requires a huge effort to be able to know for yourself that everything they are teaching is true. It was not an easy thing for me to stay, because we all have the power to choose. I should have left if I feel this is wrong. But I did not. I am a Mormon because I know this is a safe place to be. I did not want to go to a place that is dangerous for me or to a place that might hurt me. In the church, I am feeling such peace and comfort. In the church, I found true friends that I know I would not adjust my standards with. I am a happy that I am a member of this church. I would never be this kind of person I am without its teachings. I know everything about it is true and I can not deny this testimony. I am a Mormon because of my friends, my family, and the peace and comfort it gives me whenever uncertainty struck me.

How I live my faith

Before serving as a full-time missionary, I was a volunteer teacher in our branch. I teach the youth and the kids in our place. I do volunteer works such as cleaning public schools and the municipality, babysitting, and teaching piano lessons to the children in our branch. I do organize events for the church such as Youth Conferences, Fellow shipping activities, etc. I am one of the officers of the Latter-day Saints Student Association in our university when I was in college. I always try to show an exemplary behavior to everyone. I believe that when you become a member of this faith, it is not just your name that the people are seeing, rather, they see you as you and you as a member of the Mormon faith.

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints promotes succesa not only in spiritual things but also in our temporal needs. It is hence designed to give support and assistance to those who are in need that they may be also blessed. Personally, the church has given me and my family financial assistance. When my parents was hospitalized, we literally ran out of cash to pay hospital bills, we asked helped from the church and they gave it. The money came from fast offerings (religious donation) from members. Also, whwhen my parents were in need of someone to help them finance me for college, the church has this Perpetual Education Fund Self-Reliance Program which helped me finished my Accounting Bachelor Degree. The church, however, does not finance this without the effort of the benefactors. Effort is expected. On my part as a degree holder, I have to pay the amount I had loaned (with terms) that others may be also benefited. As a family, who needed help, we are fasting and giving offerings every first Sunday of each month that others may be benefited also. There are also various ways the church gives welfare services such as having own blood bank and giving it to the members when they need it, Mormon Chapels as evacuation areas, etc. The welfare comes but it is expected that you work for it so that others may be benefited also. It is a chain process. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

The Atonement of Jesus Christ pertaints to the sacrifice that the Lord suffered for the sins of the world. He bled at every bore as He was in the Garden of Gethsamane and was crucified by the people. Jesus Christ was sent and chosen by the Father to literally save us that we maybe able to live with our Heavenly Father again. The Atonemenet or suffering of Jesus Christ enables people to repent for their imperfections and that thru the Atonement, they may be perfect. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ is necessary for us to overcome our weaknesses, our imperfections, and most importantly, it gives ua hope that eveything will be in the right scene after we had done our part and did everything we could to live with our Father in Heaven.
