Hi I'm Devin Gayle Shkapich

I am a Missionary in the California Oakland/ San Francisco Mission. I love to serve and make others happy . I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being happy and making memories. I have found the best ways to do that is to serve others and be with my family. I love learning, traveling, eating, dancing, laughing, long walks on the beach, peanut butter and cookie dough ice cream, meeting new people and getting free stuff. I am currently serving as a full time missionary in the Oakland/ San Francisco Mission and I love every minute of it. One of my favorite things to do is to make others happy. I know that one of the best ways to make others and myself happy is by sharing the message of the Savior and His restored church!!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member my whole life and was raised by parents who taught my siblings and I the teachings of Jesus Christ. Their examples are very important factors in my membership and testimony of the Church. I was always taught that the Church was true but it wasn't until I was in 7th grade where I came across 1 Nephi: 11 that I had the desire to gain a true testimony of it for myself. In this chapter, Nephi is asked what was desired of him and he said he had the desire to know the things that his father had seen. After reading, I had the impression to kneel in prayer and reveal the desires of my heart to truly know if the Church of Jesus Christ was true. To know of what my parents have taught is real. The answer was almost immediate and I was overwhelmed with the Spirit that had filled the room. No person nor power can and will convince me that what I felt did not come from God. That is why I am Mormon. The feeling I get from being a member is something so divine and unchanging. Having the Holy Ghost confirm to you of truths is so sacred, so beautiful and, so real. I am Mormon because I cannot deny the witness I have received or the happiness that has come to my life by living this gospel. It is not always easy but I know it is worth it.

How I live my faith

One of the ways I live my faith is by serving and doing random acts of kindness for others. I believe that as a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we promise to take upon ourselves the name of Christ. This means that we strive to live as He did and do the things He would if He were here. I am not perfect at this but I try to look for opportunities to help lift others. I know that the only way for us to rise is by lifting others first. I came to this understanding when I was a senior in High School. I moved to several different schools and felt very much alone. Towards the end of my high school career I was very unhappy and my parents were worried. That was when my mother started encouraging me to do more service. So, to follow her counsel, I decided to do a random act kindness for someone else every day until I graduated. I started to think less of myself and my circumstances and more about others. And because of that, I was a happier person. My circumstances didn't change but I did. I have come to know that happiness in this life doesn't come from living only for ourselves but it comes from following the example of Jesus Christ and showing love one to another.
