Hi I'm Sydney Chapman

I'm a college student. I love sports, humanitarian work, traveling and the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Nebraska, lived in Massachusetts for a few years and was raised in my beloved home of Idaho. I love being outdoors, going on hikes, wakeboarding, wake surfing, swimming, and all things sports. When I was a teenager I had the opportunity to go on a humanitarian trip to help build a school for small children in the Dominican Republic and ever since I have a strong love for service and a deep interest in social entrepreneurship. I try to live my life in a way that I can help others and make their lives easier. I also love adventure and trying new things. I am a college student in Utah but have deferred to serve an 18 month mission for the church in Hawaii. I am the third person on both sides of my family to serve there- after my uncle and great great grandfather.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon not just because I was born into the faith. I am a Mormon because I have read the Book of Mormon for myself and upon asking my Father in Heaven, received an answer that it was true. I am a Mormon because I have been taught the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and have accepted him as my Lord and Savior. I found out for myself by studying his teachings in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, pondering them and through many prayers that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to obey God's commandments and being the best I can be. While I am nowhere near perfect, I try to live my life in line with the Savior's and work on being Christ-like. I have served in several positions of local leadership for youth my age in the church. In a short time, I will be leaving my family and friends and putting my education on hold to fulfil the greatest responsibility and role I have ever had in the Church- that of being a full time missionary. As a missionary, I will travel to another place for 18 months where I will devote all of my time to serving God's children and teaching them the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. People may ask me why I would leave everything for a year and a half do this, my answer is this: I know that the Book of Mormon and the message of the restored gospel is true. I know this like I know the sky is blue. Having this gospel in my life has blessed me in so many ways and has brought me genuine joy and happiness. I want others to be able to experience this too. I want them to have the same opportunities that I have like being able to be with their family forever and returning to live with our Father in Heaven again. I want people to have this light in their life and receive the joy that comes with it. If I can help just one person get to have this- it is worth every second of my time.
