Hi I'm Maria

I was an orphan in Russia. Now I'm a Mormon in the USA!

About Me

My first nine years were spent in Russia. My birth mother was an alcoholic and could not take care of me. I ran around the streets with my older sister until we were picked up by the authorities and put into an orphanage. Consequently, my mother lost her parental rights. After two years in an orphanage, my sister and I, along with two other Russian orphans, were adopted by a Mormon family and brought to America. We were taught about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and were baptized and later sealed to our new parents in a Temple of God. The family that adopted me own a theatre where my family entertains in a live music show. I have had the opportunity to work at the theatre in a variety of positions. I have worked as the gift shop manager and the dining room manager. I have even had the opportunity to perform as part of the cast. I enjoy the outdoors, physical activity, work, reading, and baking. I especially enjoy serving others.

Why I am a Mormon

At first I became a Mormon because my new parents taught me and my three adoptive siblings about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and prepared us for baptism. As a family we prayed and studied the scriptures and attended church every Sunday together. My parents other children were already grown and had families of their own when we were adopted. Since they all live close, I have had the opportunity to see how they are raising their families and what a difference being a Mormon makes in their lives. Growing up in a Mormon family and attending a Mormon church has made me want to be a Mormon too. I know this church is true because of the good fruits it produces in people's lives, including my own. I see others who have many problems and don't know where to turn for answers. I now have a strong testimony of my own regarding the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Because of my faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I serve others in any way I can. I try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ in my life. I live in a large extended family and serve them in any way that I can by babysitting or helping with household and garden projects. I take the time each month to visit other church members in their homes and I love to participate in church and community service projects whenever I can. I teach a gospel centered class once a month at church. I pray to God and read my scriptures every day. I love attending the Temple with my friends or my family. I am excited to be a missionary and help others come unto Christ.
