Hi I'm Katie

I grew up in Utah. I aspire to be an author, a mother, and a psychiatrist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college age student and my interests include languages, psychology, writing, and music. I spend a lot of my time working to earn money for an LDS mission and now I am working and studying diligently to make sure all that needs to be done before I leave is done. I love playing the violin and the piano. I sing occasionally, but more for my own amusement than for the entertainment of others. My favorite thing to do is to write stories and then share them with others. My stories are varied in genre, with a focus on themes like rebirth, redemption, and enlightenment. As a hobby, I like to learn vocabulary and phrases of other languages. I have tried some German, Russian, and Italian (but not good enough for any form of fluency). However, my primary language focus has been on Spanish and Japanese (those of which I can have a decent conversation, but no flawless fluency).

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a Mormon because my parents have been Mormon. Despite being born into the church, it has still been a choice I have made and I am determined to keep it. At an early age I believed in God and I wanted to live my life to please God. I have tried hard to follow his commandments and though I am not perfect, I have been able to avoid the worst that life could give me if I made different, dangerous decisions. I have felt the Spirit of God confirm to me so many times that this church is true. I feel like I have become a better person as I kneel and pray to God to help me overcome my weaknesses. I know that Christ is my Savior and that through him I will be able to return and live with God. I believe that Joseph Smith is a true prophet because I have read the Book of Mormon and know that it contains the words of God. I am a Mormon because I struggle with self worth and I know through my faith in God that God sees me as a person of great worth. I am fine with not being perfect now, but I strive everyday to overcome the frailties of my human soul that one day I can be perfect through the gace of Jesus Christ's atonement. I love God, and I trust God. I am a Mormon and I try to live in such a way that I can feel God's love and earn His trust.

How I live my faith

I serve in my faith as a primary chorister. I teach the children of our church how to sing songs that help strengthen their testimonies in God and Jesus Christ. We also sing songs to help us remember scriptures and principles that are taught in the church so when we go throughout our weeks we can remember through song. During the week, I live my faith by praying and reading my scriptures. I discuss with friends what I have read and share precious experiences with them. My favorite thing to do because of my faith is to serve other people. I love baking cookies and visiting people who need a friend and attention. I try to stay optimistic so that others around me can come to me if they need someone to lighten their day. I try once a month with a visiting and teaching companion to visit a few sisters in our ward. SOme months we are unable to coordinate, but when we visit, we listen and talk with those sisters and cater to their needs. I appreciate this program in the church because it brings us out of our homes and helps us become better neighbors. I have discovered great friends becasue of visiting teaching that I wouldn't have without it.
