Hi I'm Shaun Stevens

I was born in England and when I was 10 I moved to Australia. My parents are South African and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 17 year old boy who loves many different activities. I love sport and have grown up loving Rugby Union. I also love swimming, volleyball, cross country and many other sports. As well as sport I love to read books, ranging from fictional books such as the inheritance cycle to Non-fictional War stories. I love the outdoors, love rock climbing and hiking as well as travelling. Due to the fact that I was born in England, with my parents being South African,I have travelled alot and love to travel. I am energetic and outgoing and love to make new friends, really I'm just a normal teenager who loves to see the world and try new things.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into the church, I have still had to choose to stay on this path and I have had to find out for myself if the things I was brought up with where true. The reason I am a Mormon is because I have seen what it has done for my life and for the lives of my family. This gospel has always brought happiness and unity to my life, even before I had a strong testimony of this Gospel. I now know that the reason my family is so close and that I had such a warm and loving home growing up is all because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the choices of my parents to be faithful members. As I grew up I frequently felt the holy ghost, looking back now I can see the struggles I went through and the mistakes I made, but through those challenges I came to know of the truthfulness of this gospel. My belief turned into a desire and my desire turned into action, which through faith turned into knowledge. I read the Book of Mormon and have had many answers to my prayers, I have seen the blessings in my life as I have kept the commandments of god, and this is all evidence that what I know is true. I know that it is only through the atonement of Jesus Christ that we can change and be happy, that it is only because of the atonement that we have that hope of change and of a better life. I know that God and Jesus Christ live, and that they love me and all of us individually, I know they answer prayers and that the Book of Mormon is the word of good and is the fruits of the restored gospel. I am so grateful for the authority we have in this gospel and for the prophets called to lead us. I am a Mormon because I have tested it out and wouldn't trade my testimony for anything.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is very important to me and has really shaped how I live my life. One of the first ways I lived my faith was not participating in sporting competitions on Sundays. This was hard for me growing up as I had many opportunities to make regional teams etc. However knowing that it was the lords day I made the choice to not play sport or do many normal everyday activities on Sundays and have seen the change in my life as I have continued to go to church and worship the lord. In high school living my faith became somewhat harder, I lived my faith by not swearing, not going out to parties and drinking alcohol or participating in any activity that I knew was contradictory to my beliefs. The more I lived my faith the more I had to live it as people started noticing the difference. That brought many questions and discussions about my religion at school and I lived my faith again by always answering the questions and talking about my beliefs, never being ashamed of who I was. Now as someone who has finished school, I live my Faith by being called to serve a mission in Tokyo Japan, this was something I had always strived to do and know it is the right thing, to share the happiness I have felt by living my faith with others.
